Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Alan Wake is awesome, though I didn't like American Nightmare or the other DLC that much.

On release it was supposed to be this revolutionary game. Its 7 years old now, literally ancient in the tech world.
I played it a few years back. Even after watcing an LP of it, I still had a good deal of fun. The PC port is absolutely fantastic. I've heard mixed opinions though. Some people have said American Nightmare is better than the entire main game, and other people have said it's not worth playing at all. I haven't played that bit, so I can't really comment Xp

They have different goals. The mechanics are better in American Nightmare, and it has more of an action bent, whereas the main game does a better job building up some amazing ambiance. Alan Wake is one of my absolute favorite games from last generation, no joke.
Plus, some of the tracks in those games are absolutely epic.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I have today off from work, and am using that time to finish my dork cave (finally
). One thing I'm doing is taking PC box games and removing the game discs to put in slim cases on a shelf. So I got to Tomb of Zojir, and opened it, and pulled out the contents, and then nearly shit myself:

They put fake spiders in the box! I had no idea these were in there. I just pulled the contents out, and the next thing I know big black spiders are landing on my foot.
Once I realized the practical joke, I was impressed. This is one of the cleverest things I've seen a publisher do with packaging, and it fits the horror game concept beautifully. For eight years these little bastards had been lying in wait for me.
So now I've got to decide what to do with these plastic spiders. Guess I'll pull a Luke and scare the piss outta my wife. Tomorrow's her birthday, I think that'd be the perfect day for it.

I'm about to find out. On sale 360 BC.

I remember reading about it way back on OXBM but never saw it in person. Seems neat.
Older. Not wiser.

The interesting thing is how Alan Wake was kind of MS's punch against Sony's Heavy Rain. Was cool watching that feud build up, then they turned out to be entirely different games really. Both cool for their own ideas, but Alan Wake is way more my style. If anything it's got a lot in common with RE4. I really love wooded settings and the writing was top notch as usual. It's almost like the AAA version of Deadly Premonition, haha.
A shame Quantum Break sounds pretty bad in comparison.
