This is exactly the case.Reprise wrote:To me it was just a stop gap to fill the big wide hole between the Wii U being dead and the Switch not being out. It wasn't supposed to be something with a big, long release.

Good job a post from 2mo ago.ApolloBoy wrote:WelpTanooki wrote:No that was a lie started by trolls
Well ain't that bullshit, glad I have one. I would still not be surprised given their investment into it that it's not a full discontinuation. ATGames yearly 'discontinues' their shitty Sega handhelds they've done for 10 years now as they make a large run of them around Aug-Oct each year for all that Christmas pushing frantic buying and then they dry up around early Spring the following year completely other than random stragglers. I would not be shocked if they just ran that shit up the flagpole again next November for another 90days and bail on it again, or next time, do another set of titles or the SNES instead.
Which if they do holy shit that'll be an all new world of hellish pain for any honest buyer as those scalper fuckers will be all over it 10x worse knowing a pulled plug is coming.
Re: NES Classic
I still don't understand why people think it's complicated.
Step 1: Nintendo announces product that will likely be released with a very limited run
Step 2: Notice how much hype there is online and realise said product will be scarce and may be difficult to find if slow to react
Step 3: Go to online retailer of your choice
Step 4: Click pre-order
Step 5: Wait
Step 6: $$$$$$

Bet they will make a snes one for nov
Re: NES Classic
This is probably a temporary discontinuation to ensure attention remains focused on the Switch, and potentially the upcoming Switch VC. Also, an opportunity to remove the easy USB hackability.
Re: NES Classic
I'm quite happy with making one of my broken (soft-mod) Wii systems an honorary NES Classic.
Of course, between Mega Man Collection, Zelda Collector's Edition, Mario All Stars, and Kirby Collections, some of the good stuff was already there.
It's not a big deal in the end. If this was the only way to play these games in the modern age, I might cry foul. As it is, I feel like Nintendo is actually giving good reason to justify piracy.
Not sure what the eShop offers these days, but I kind of lost interest under threats (implied or real) of banned/bricked systems, so I keep clear of it.
I even hear that hacks of the NES Classic may be one of the reasons for stopping system production, which I would find ironic if true.
My main point is that the actions game companies take to defend their product is a double edged sword that cuts their own potential profits.
As for preordering to avoid all this: yeah, ideally that would be a good idea. A lot of help it is to the target audience though: casual gamers that want a quick, convenient, and generally easy way to play the NES greats (who might not have even known about it until after it launched). That crowd is unlikely to preorder much, in my experience.
Myself, I was on the fence on this purchase when it came out, but I definitely didn't need it.

It's cool to have the nes mini but like you said you could of played all the classics on the Wii and on other disc compilations.
Maybe in a month when it reaches to people paying 1000.00 for it I might take the bullet and sell it lol
Re: NES Classic
I'm sure you'll hate this, but my wife just bought the last one in the county moments ago at a Target and reasonable driving distance beyond as far as brickseek and nowinstock can dig at least. It's for my little girl, if they want me to hack it I will, and if not, that's fine too. I'll be going in her room later on today, her first legit game console to go along with the teal GB Color I picked her up lat year.
