As expected, now that the game actually works... Dishonored 2 is incredible. It's more of the same and that's not a bad thing. I'm not sure if I'm finding the story/scenario as interesting, but it doesn't really matter. It's the atmosphere and lore that really makes these games. Just straight up some of the best art direction I have ever seen in gaming period. I feel so damn dirty in Dunwall/Karnacka and I love it. The verticality and architecture is just breathtaking. This is going to be another timeless classic for the ages.

It cracks me up so much how this one feels like they're still pulling so much out of the Thief bag and I don't mind that at all either. Thief 2 had tougher mechanical enemies... so does Dishonored 2. And now even Stephen Russel is voicing Corvo and it's all kinds of awesome. You could practically pretend this is basically old man Garret in another country or something. The Witchcraft/Void/Magic stuff in Dishonored's world is straight up The Dark Project material as well.

Man oh man, so glad I can play it now. And just like my hunch last year, while I enjoy some of the stuff Eidos Montreal did with Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, it is just all far too easy to see the real DNA of Looking Glass / Ion Storm / etc is within Arkane and Dishonored is hands down the true successor to Thief/Deus Ex. The gameplay in these really blows the new Deus Ex games out of the water and is so much more polished and fluid.

Admittedly, that's not hard to do.

I'm sure Dishonored is good stuff though. I've got the first one on 360 (not played it yet).

While I did not love Dishonored, I liked it wayyyy more than the Deus Ex games I tried.

This isn't an excuse, but have you gone back and tried it again? It took my old roommate three tries for the first game to finally click with him, then he blasted through 2 without a break (and on PS4 his save got corrupted so he had to play through half of it again) and 2 was his GOTY 2016, so the series really won him over. It seems like I've seen this experience happen to a lot of people or some outlets like most of Giant Bomb not caring for it.

They are pure bliss to me, but they are certainly a bit obtuse so I can see how it might not click with everyone. Which just seems to be Arkane's continued legacy I guess.

So pumped to see how Prey turns out next month.

The original Deus Ex is a masterpiece. Its sequel (Invisible War) is a good game.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is meh. Deus Ex: The Fall is just terrible.

I have not played Deus Ex Go or Mankind Divided yet.

Xeo, I would need more time to go back. I didn't hate it. I was impressed but it didn't grab me. I hated the DE games tho haha.

Xeo, are you rocking Corvo or Emily? I ended up going Emily and I thought she ended up approaching things differently than Corvo in the first game, which I appreciated to keep things fresh.

I really liked Human Revolution. The plot is pretty good until you reach the endgame. The characters are really interesting. The actual mechanics of stealth, hacking, gun play, etc... all feel a lot better than any of the previous installments. Only the bosses were truly horrid, and the Missing Link DLC has a great boss that shows you just how the other boss fights should have been.

I really like the original Deus Ex for what it attempted, and at the time it was revolutionary, but it doesn't hold up well IMO. Shooting and sneaking feels awkward, especially when you don't have any enhancements. The core story is really interesting, but the whole "throw every single conspiracy at the wall and see what sticks" thing is actually quite inartful, and the story ends up working in spite of a lot of those elements instead of because of them. I actually agree with you on Invisible War. It didn't really live up to the story/plot or choose-your-solution premises set up by the original, but the actual mechanics of play felt pretty good and the music was great.

They also fixed it in the Director's Cut to give you a variety of ways to approach taking them down; as I recall I didn't even need to pull out my gun on any of them and instead did things like boot up turrets to kill them.

Were there ways to defeat them or take them out without killing them in the Director's Cut?
