How much did NES/SNES/etc games cost new in Japan?

Post by Erik_Twice »

I know that the Famicom costed around 15000 yen, but now that I think of it I've never heard of the actual retail price of Famicon games. Same thing with Super Famicon, Mega Drive and so on. And my Google searches turn up nothing.

Do you know how much these games costed guys?

This has been my little secret for a while now, but this database has just about everything you could want to know in terms of Japanese game release info: http://tk-nz.game.coocan.jp/gamedatabase/index.html

Click on whatever console you want, choose a release year, and you'll get a chronological list of Japanese releases. There's a column near the right edge with the title:

Which is the pricing data you're looking for. The initial releases for the famicom were all ¥4500, while the 1990 release year SFC games were anywhere from ¥6500 to ¥8800.
