What RPG are you playing right now?
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I really enjoyed Arx Fatalis... But compared to more modern games that use the same perspective, it can feel a little clunky. Combat never felt particularly great to me, but I still enjoyed what the game brought to the table. But clunky combat is kind of what those kinds of RPGS do best ; )

Been meaning to get that on GOG.com. Looks rad man.

Arx is one of my all time favourites - a truly original FP RPG with tons of style and character - and the game that put Arkane on the map.
They released source code for it later on and some enterprising folk fixed the game for modern machines (it was stuttery and had lots of bugs originally): http://arx-libertatis.org/ You might try this version instead of the "bought" one, I think it`s totally finishable.
Also, their second RPG - Dark Crusader Of Might and Magic is rather awesome, though critics didn`t always agree. I love the ahead-of-its-time physics based combat though and being different from the usual fare in general (Arkane trademark ;)

Arx Fatalis is basically Ultima Underworld III. That should get anyone excited enough to play it. I loved the game personally.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Arx seems like my cup of tea since I love good immersive first person games from that era. It ran like crap a few computers ago though, but I'm going to give it another shot sometime.
I think akeley meant Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, which is definitely awesome.
Here's hoping Arkane's Prey is awesome, because it looks incredible. And I still need to play Dishonored 2, shame Bethesda forced them on old idTech and it was a disastrous launch. Even to this day it still sounds pretty hit or miss for PC players. I might just put up with 30FPS again and go with the PS4 version.

Still playing Tales of Innocence R. I'm really surprised I haven't met the character added for the Vita version yet, given that that one is the 3rd party member you get in Hearts R. I got my 7th not too long ago, and I still haven't gotten her. I just wish this game gave you your 3rd melee fighter sooner. You have Luca and Sparta (whose English name should really be Sparda, but that looks really stupid in English) really early on, and then it's just more spellcasters/healers until your 7th guy. I'm comprehending a lot of the dialogue pretty well lately. Helping a lot with my language self esteem
. Anjuu and Ricardo are both very funny X3

What's the name of the punch chick? I remember getting her relatively early on and switched to using her as my primary controlled character full time.

You`re right, it`s the Messiah I had in mind - all those Might & Magic games get mixed up in my head

Not sure if it was exactly Beth "forcing" them to use idTech 5 - the 6th iteration is relatively new and I think was only being developed when they started work on D2. To be honest, I take any reports of a calamitious PC launches with a pinch of salt - it`s something that always was around and seems exaggerated/downplayed depending on developer - so for example PC darlings such as Deus Ex or The Witcher get a free pass (despite having their fair share of troubles) while others, not so much. Also a reason to wait at least two patches deep before playing any modern title.
Anyway, looking forward to Prey too, hope they could pull it off seeing as it was certainly one bizarre development path for this sequel (at some point it was supposed to be an open world title).
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Yeah my theory is that since Dishonored 2 was probably in development during Doom 4's as well, naturally id would be the only ones to get to use idTech 6 first. Even though Dishonored 2 would come out later. It's a shame this happened, because it seems like Doom 4 runs extremely well across everything. I played on the PS4 myself and it was a constant perfect 1080p/60FPS, and I hear even some low end PC's can get it running really well. So... the complete opposite of Dishonored 2's performance.
I'm definitely a bit anti pre-ordering and all that myself, but I guess I felt a little tricked here because of how well optimized Dishonored 1 was on PC. It runs like magic. So I kind of assumed Dishonored 2 was going to be a similar case and boy was I wrong. Lesson learned.
What really ticked me off is that I basically bought a GTX 1060 for it and Deus Ex Mankind Divided. At least MD ran pretty well. But Dishonored 2 was my first Steam refund ever. It ran that badly for me.
So even though Prey is using some kind of Crysis engine, I'll definitely hold off on some reviews and user posts for this one before touching it.
There's actually some alpha gameplay footage of the old Prey 2 and looking back, I'm glad it got scrapped. It looks really tedious in an Assassin's Creed 1 kind of way with its "open world" and repetitive mission based structure. But damn the setting looked incredible, we rarely get gritty far out sci-fi like that. But this new Prey basically being some kind of System Shock is totally cool with me. It will be interesting to see how it stacks compared to Dishonored, which is really top tier for me, but Prey looks like it has all the potential to be just as good or more.

I think you managed to get spectacularly unlucky. Or you put a turbocharged engine in a Pinto or something.
