Sonic Lost World

Post by Reprise »

So I just finished Sonic Lost World. I feel like opening a thread on the game or writing a review, because I know a lot of people have yet to play it. Especially as it's not out in North America yet.

It's late here though, so what I'll say for now is, I loved the game. It has its flaws, but it also has so many lovely touches. I think a lot of the reviews were really unfair on the game. Although even Colours and Generations had their share of mixed and negative responses, so it was to be expected.

The Good:
- Less speed, more platforming
- Imaginative and buzzing level design
- Alternative routes and heavier emphasis on exploration
- The controls

The Bad:
- The deadly six are pretty meh bosses
- Some lame gimmicky ideas/zones (e.g. a level where you're a snow ball)
- The whisp powers from Colours

The ironic thing is, before a single review on the game was posted, I wrote about my initial feelings, in which I was quite critical on the game. The thing is, you have to get used to the controls and then the game really grows on you.

Overall, if you're a Sonic fan and enjoyed some of the 3D outings, get this. Don't let some of the reviews fool you. It's downright ridiculous that some sites/magazines were scoring this as low as Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 and other crappy games. Whether you enjoy this as much as Generations or Colours is down to your taste, since the style and engine is very different, but regardless, it's still one of Sonic's best 3D games.

I don't really have anything to contribute since I haven't played this game, nor will I anytime soon. I have been keeping an eye on this thinking it might be the title that pushes me to purchase a Wii-U. I was disappointed to see that the PA Report game the game a mediocre review. However, your post gives me hope that this might be a worthwhile game.

Also, Sonic in the Nintendo forum? BLASPHEMY! :P

I have seen the control agrument with a lot of games on the WiiU, people complained about the controls in Wonderful 101 and I found them to be difficult at first, but incredibly fulfilling as you progress through the game.

I may rent Sonic Lost World and if it really wows me, it may be a purchase. I will experience it one way or another, since I loved the franchise, but have really abandoned it lately and need to start it up again!

That's a bit like Sonic Lost World. I mean, compared to say, Sonic Generations, it's much harder to control. Anyone can play Sonic Generations, as much as I love it, and look like a freaking boss at it, even if it's their first play. Once you get used to the controls in Sonic Lost World though, you really kind of appreciate it. I'm not saying the game doesn't have its duff moments (it really does), but the controls aren't it for me. Plus, for all the reviews saying it's too hard and frustrating, I completed it in like 3 days.

This is a super necro bump but on topic.

So there was a limited run of Deadly Six Edition copies, and they came with a DLC code for a level and something else, but from everything I've read, the codes expired a couple years back. Soooo there's no way to play the bonus DLC any longer (note: they did release free content for the game)?

I had read Elkin's review a ways back so this one had made my list to check out. I guess there is some bumped up rarity to having the code insert and the special cover. If anyone knows differently, please share!

Wait, that was a limited cover? Well shit, I had no idea about that. I just pre-ordered it out of hype when I heard it compared to Super Mario Galaxy. Then I gave up on it when it required that I grind stupid woodland creatures to progress.

Wait, what? That was never a grind. It was practically impossible to not get enough by just simply playing the game as normal.

And yeah, the 'first edition' copies of the game came with a NiGHTS inspired level. To be honest, it wasn't as good as the free Yoshi's World or Zelda levels.

I was like 1500 critter short from being able to access the next world, and (as far as I remember) I played every level I could access. Maybe I'll try again some day and realize that I missed something. Idk.

I really, really wanted to like this game. The whole thing was a massive missed opportunity.

But then I could be describing most of the modern era Sonic games, right?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
