So what have you guys been watching lately?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The show stays dark and despairing for the entirety of the run, leading to a major point of catharsis when it ends. Personally I thought that was part of what made it amazing; if you have a villain with no morals who has the ability to mind control people this is the appropriate level of despair. The characters were deeply flawed but realistically portrayed in those flaws and how they try to rise above those flaws.

At the very least, season 3 episode 2 would be recommended for folks interested in gaming.
I watched the first episode of Black Mirror and loved it, but my wife didn't. So we started watching something else. I plan to watch the entire Black Mirror series eventually though.

Well, let's see, for me I've enjoyed the following:

Hap and Leonard
Legion
Atlanta
The Great British Baking Show
America's Test Kitchen
Taboo

I enjoyed most of Sherlock, though that final season wasn't on par for me. I've enjoyed what I've seen of The Detour. And of course Regular Show has been an absolute blast to work on during its run. I have been very sad to see it go.

I'm interested in watching Daredevil mainly for the second season, because I'd rather see the Punisher than just about any other character in those series.

Are you talking about season 4 of Sherlock? As in the one that released this year?

I forgot one other show I loved:

I adored it while it lasted.

I really liked Firefly, and I totally understand why people just totally went bonkers over it, but I did see indications that had the show been allowed a longer run it might have started losing a lot of its luster. I mean, look what Whedon went on to do with the Serenity movie (not bad, but tonally very different) and then Dollhouse (interesting but VERY flawed: highs and lows abounded). So I'm glad we got what we did, but I'm also not as broken up as some others are about it being canceled.

I had this problem too, but I stuck with it because my wife loved it. I could only watch an episode a week and she was chomping at the bit. The vast majority of the series really is so hopeless, but the last few episodes have a turning point, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel, and suddenly it becomes much more watchable, and especially in light of the so-hopeless early episodes the ending because that much more cathartic. If you can find a way to get through the series, I encourage trying. I think a lot of women also like the series because it seems, in a way, like a parallel for some kinds of domestic abuse.
Sarge wrote:I still liked Daredevil the best overall, and I'm hoping The Defenders turns out well.
Oh, the martial arts. That's what made Daredevil for me, the staging of the action scenes and the choreography. I agree with you on this one.

I am saddened by what I've heard about Iron Fist.

Yeah, I just didn't care for it at all.

Wasn't a huge fan of the Elektra stuff but the Punisher makes season 2 well worth watching. The Punisher gets his own show sometime this year so it's worth checking out to get ready for that. He is insanely brutal and I think Jon Bernthal does an amazing job as Frank Castle.

Iron Fist also relies on you having watched DD season 2 as well since the main villain organization is the same as well as some of the main baddies.

I agree.

Spoilery talk.
He would have also made for a better villain than his father who was super unlikable and the "twist" was so freaking obvious from the beginning :P. If his father had stayed dead he could have become an amazing antagonist since he seemed to be getting his shit together and gaining the courage/ability to do some pretty extreme things to reach his goals. I kind of figured he was going to make a turn around at some point though since while a douche they gave plenty of excuses for his behavior and spent alot of time developing his protective relationship with his sister which brings me to another thing that brought the show down for me.

It was predictable as hell. The only thing I didn't expect was Davos teaming up with Madame Gao at the very end because that makes no fucking sense. Sure he and Danny get into a fight and he is all angsty about the Iron Fist both how Danny is slacking off on his duties and because he didn't inherit it himself. However he still hates the hand to the extreme so WTF why is he with Gao and suddenly on the kill Danny train. Plus they are trying to recruit Joy WTF.

Actually, the more I think about it, that actually makes total sense. More spoilery stuff.
Why is Davos ticked off at Danny? Because he "stole" the Iron Fist. He trained his entire life to receive it, and an outsider came in and took it. Furthermore, Danny "betrayed" them by leaving his guard post. So really, if Davos wants a chance to be the Iron Fist, and fulfill the role that Danny won't, then he needs Danny dead. And he's got every justification for it in his mind, since he's the rightful wielder of the power.

As for Gao being there, I don't know if that means he's in cahoots with her, or if she's simply there approving of what she's hearing. Plus, even if he is working with her, it's probably one of those "enemy of my enemy" situations, he gets the Iron Fist, and then proceeds to kick their butt.
