Sinclair ZX Spectrum+2 Action Pack

Hi Guys,

Any experts on this?



I'm not an expert on Spectrums myself... A bit before my time haha. My brother in law runs a charity and they sometimes get stuff in to sell at events to help raise funds for the charity and my father in law (the family help out) sent the above photo asking me if I had any idea how much is might be worth and if I want it. I said I'll try to look into it for them.

They say it's been fully tested and checked and seems to work.

Question 1: Should I take it? They'll probably give me a discount

Question 2: How much do you think it's worth? There's two on Ebay, also boxed, one is £100 but the box is really battered and in rubbish condition. The other is £180 and again doesn't look like marvelous condition, but does come with a whole bunch of games.

I'm UK/European for context.

ZX Spectrum +2 was one of the upmarket versions of the standard ones (looks like a CPC because Amstrad bought Sinclair out). It has more RAM, AY music chip which is vastly superior and that built in tape deck. Keyboard is also much better. My rich pal had one - it was fun, but not THAT much better than my simple-peasant Timex. There were not that many games utilising the extra ram and you could get the AY chip separately.

Should you get it? Not sure, if you want to play ZX games on original hardware then there are cheaper options. You can get a +2 and a joystick separately and spend the rest on DivIDE or other flash solution. You can also buy even cheaper, older ZX, like I said above you won`t miss the extra features that much.

If you`re collector then I suppose so, why not. How much is it worth? Hard to say. The games on the 180 quid ebay one don`t look like worth anything significant and those Buy It Now prices are fairly meaningless. I`d risk saying probably on auction could get 70-120 quid, but don`t quote me on that :) It`s a rare thing, but will anybody buy it? It`s not Nintendo...just an old Speccy.

Thanks for the reply, it's appreciated. I've decided I'm not too interested it it, I'm already short on space and have too many consoles, so I'll probably leave it. I'm mostly interested in just advising my brother in law on how much to try and sell it for. Of course, the difficulty they face as a charity as they just tend to sell stuff at random fares where you're not necessarily going to get collectors and the like, so whether they'll be able to sell it easily without practically giving it away is another thing.

I agree BIN prices are a bit meaningless and it's best to check completed listings. I'll try and see if there's been many in the last few months.

Edit: Ah ok, my father in law says they will be selling it on Ebay, so I guess they do have an Ebay shop.
