I thought in some ways it was actually more interesting not having a single central villain. Instead, it kind of evolved over time. And I actually think Ward Meachum had one of the most interesting character arcs.
Overall, I liked it more than Jessica Jones or Luke Cage. Not by much over Luke Cage, 'cause I enjoyed a lot of that show, too.
It's definitely not deserving of all the flak it's getting. I feel like maybe it's the Mass Effect Andromeda of Marvel Netflix shows? Too many high hopes and when it comes up short (but still decent or good).
(It could also be that my tastes skew differently than most critical reviewers, because everyone loved Jessica Jones.)
So what have you guys been watching lately?

I think it's this, because JJ is my favorite of the Marvel shows.Sarge wrote:(It could also be that my tastes skew differently than most critical reviewers, because everyone loved Jessica Jones.)

Ouch. You have damned it with faint praise.MrPopo wrote:I'd probably put it on the same level as the second half of Luke Cage.

In retrospect, Jessica Jones is the only one of those series I actually loved. (I also loved Agent Carter, but that wasn't a Netflix series.) That said, I haven't seen the second season of Daredevil...but I had to force my way through the second half of the first season. I also had to force my way through the second half of Luke Cage, and I am beginning to think that these shows should be eight episodes, rather than thirteen. (Also, I will probably skip Iron Fist unless The Defenders series really knocks it out of the park.)

^I loved the second season of Daredevil. In hindsight, I probably enjoyed the second more than the first. Though King Pin was amazing, it was great to finally see such compelling takes on Punisher and Elektra.

I'd like to see it. My wife is a hard sell though. Although we both thought that Wilson Fisk was great, she found the main characters in Daredevil to be painfully boring. I largely agree with her, and since she didn't grow up reading comics, convincing her to give the show another chance because the Punisher is so awesome is challenging.noiseredux wrote:^I loved the second season of Daredevil. I know I'm about twelve days answering this, but here we go anyway.Xeogred wrote:Might make a separate thread about this, but do you guys think any of the 90's videogame related cartoons have legitimately aged well? Do a lot of them still have cheap boxsets? I'd like to scoop some of them up for the heck of it.
I watched all of Mega Man two years ago or something and it was actually incredible haha. The puns were so crazy bad and the animation was actually quite good, since I think most of it was done in Japan.
I own Sonic SatAM so I might hit that up sometime soon. I watched some of it 4 years ago when I moved into this apartment and might watch it again when I move in a few weeks haha. I always hated the goofier chili dogs cartoon in comparison.
I watched a lot of the Super Mario Bros Super Show. I think I need those DVD's in my life.
I rewatched a bit of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. You know what? It's total cringe. Every episode is full of countless Italian stereotypes - especially spaghetti jokes. Watching this show in adulthood is an endurance test to find out how many times one can stomach the phrase, "Momma Mia! That's a spicy meat-uh-ball!"
Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
But it does have "The Mario".

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
I guess I'm just not the demographic, 'cause I'm not drawn to these comic shows like you guys are. I read a lot of these comics as a kid, but the impetus nostalgia's just not there. I watched the first season of Daredevil, which I thought was "OK", like "6/10 OK". Not enough to make me want to watch the second season. I tried watching Jessica Jones, but I couldn't make it through the first episode before I cringed out. None of the other superhero shows look interesting to me at all. Not saying these are bad shows, or that anybody has bad taste for enjoying them, just offering a differing opinion for contrast.
To name ten shows I've seen and loved in the past 10 years*...
Breaking Bad (AMC 2008-2013)
Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule (Adult Swim 2010-????)
Firefly (Fox 2002)
Edge of Darkness (BBC 1985)
Luther (BBC 2010-2015)
Master Keaton (Nippon Television 1998-2000)
Rome (HBO 2005-2007)
Sherlock (BBC 2010-????)
The Singing Detective (BBC 1986)
The Wire (HBO 2002-2008)
Watch those! All of those!
*Yes some of these are older than 10 years, but I didn't see them until more recently.

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
Firefly was interesting. I'd have liked to see where it all went. I'm not sure it's one of my absolute favorites, but I definitely enjoyed my time watching it.
I tapped out on Jessica Jones after four episodes. It's just too intentionally dark and edgy for me to enjoy. I don't like wallowing in despair, and it seemed like that show did a little too much of it. Maybe it changes, but it sure seems like that's the sort of stuff folks lap up now.
I still liked Daredevil the best overall, and I'm hoping The Defenders turns out well.

Exhum, have you watched Black Mirror? If not, you'd probably like it. Each episode stands alone, so watching whichever one sounds interesting is fine. There are occasionally throwbacks to previous episodes in the background or whatnot, but mostly they're like short movies.
At the very least, season 3 episode 2 would be recommended for folks interested in gaming.
