Tracking your collection - On-line? Software? Custom?
Re: Tracking your collection - On-line? Software? Custom?
I've been using Backloggery for a few years now. I want to try using other listing websites, and now would be a good time to do so before my collection grows further and I have more games to list.

Excel is my ticket to keeping things in order. I have a total of three going for different reasons (odd reasons mind you). Seems simple enough and works well.

I'm pretty good at keeping track on what i own so i haven't felt the need to use any helping tools. There's been couple of those "wait, don't i own this game moments" but i haven't bought anything twice yet.

I started playing around with vgcollect and I actually like it. It's pretty quick and easy.
Some of you may know that Piko Interactive recently released the Brazilian Mega Drive version of Duke Nukem 3D. This wasn't in the database on VGC, but I took a couple of minutes to add the information and it was immediately available to add to my collection page. Nifty.
Good chance I still won't finish this, but it's fun to explore.

-I love the Backloggery myself, mainly because it's not just a good way to track my collection in terms of what my own, but also what I need to get around to playing. And because the text fields for game names are all free-entry, there's no submission process needed for obscure stuff.

But that's half the fun at RFGen I have my name credited on 900+ submissions that shits going on my resumealienjesus wrote:And because the text fields for game names are all free-entry, there's no submission process needed for obscure stuff.

Everyone who provides any info to a game page gets credited.

I use an Android app called My Game Collection. It works pretty good for the most part although there's the odd game that it can't pick up on any of the databases you can choose from. It has a free version that is AD supported, the premium version isn't very expensive. It's fairly flexible, there isn't anything that I haven't been able to do with it so far.

I realized I misspoke before. I used Collectorz before - not VGC. They did have an app, which worked with the software, using the cloud to update. The app was pretty nice (and iOS) but was an additional cost. RFGen has an app for Android.

I have found vgcollect actually has a pretty big library and it's really fast to add something to your collection. I think it might be the lowest-overhead option, meaning for folks who just want to track what they have and not much more.

I really love Delicious Library as it allows you to scan bar codes to lookup games to add and it has one-button publish to either a Dropbox folder or FTP site if you want it online. It's OS X only unfortunately...
