Made it through the Hanging Gardens, and through the Under Tomb, and to the last boss, killed the last boss... and then some Necron BS happened. Surprise! Last last boss. Ha ha fool you!

Mother has some great atmosphere but is kind of a slog gameplay-wise. Parts two and three are absolutely stunning, however.

Yeah, the original Mother definitely suffers in the battle department. At least you get a super powered robot buddy near the end of the game so you can power grind for the end.

bear in mind I'm playing the GBA version with the 'Easy Ring'. I believe that makes it a whole less grindy. However I've now taken it off having bought a Goddess Bracelet. It was so easy up until then as to be tedious for the wrong reasons.

Is there some problem with the sound emulation on the GBA? I noticed that the music sounded very odd on the Game Boy Micro where it was so quiet I could only hear it with headphones and it still sounded wrong.

I switched to my Gamebox (Russian SP clone) and it sounds much better.

Does the irritating problem of only being able to carry six items ever get any better?

Since the GBA Micro drops regular GB compatibility, I wouldn't be surprised if there were something different about the sound circuit. But generally speaking, the GBA actually has rather poor audio output quality.

At some point you get party members who also can carry items. But make no mistake; the series interface has always been a clone of early Dragon Quest games.

I just finished FFXV last night. I think there were some pronounced flaws (I found the dialog interface to be horrendous, and there was some clunkiness in the localization towards the end), but all in all, I truly enjoyed it. I cared about the characters, and the epilogue scene really hit home for me.

All in all, I'd say the good outweighed the bad, and while it wasn't life-changing, I am happy I played it. I'd give it a strong 7/10.
