I never had or played a Saturn but I'm planning to get a Saturn Model 1 tomorrow from a local seller. I understand that the swap trick is pretty easy on this system.
I found a source in the UK who has a bunch of mod chips in stock since this site and the one on angelfire are both out of stock. I understand that there's a tutorial at: http://www.angelfire.com/pa/Raluminat/model1.html
that explains how to modify/use a model 2 mod chip on a model 1 system.
The seller in the UK wasn't sure if it would work for his mod chip. Has anyone on this site tried the technique? Is there a concern that this technique won't work?
I'm comfortable with soldering and have a pretty good setup (soldering station, magnifier light, flux, etc) so I'm not squeamish about doing the install.

If it's the same mod chip that Racket use to sell, then yes. It could be a different mod chip, but the same design/circuit, so check it over and see.

Re: Modding a Saturn Model 1
I ended up getting a model 2 off Ebay today (brand new) for $60 including shipping. I didn't want to do the swap trick nor did I want to risk it not working with the mod chip.
I can't wait for the unit to come. Now I just need to place my mod chip order.
