Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Sure. Do you have a particular genre? Most sports games are under $20, as well as some puzzle games such as Zoop. Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday is a cheap Looney Tunes platformer with a subtle horror theme I enjoyed. Games like Super Solitaire or Shanghai II are also cheap if you like card games or mahjongg solitaire. Pinball games are also pretty cheap. And then there are SimCity, Eye of the Beholder, Tiny Toon Adventures, Smart all, Kid Klown in Crazy Chase...You have some options.marlowe221 wrote:I don't want to turn this into a "SNES prices are too damn high!" thread, but does anyone have any recommendations for SNES games that are worth playing but also less than $20 in today's wierd retro market?

I don't really care about sports games and I've never been big on puzzle games either. Otherwise, I'm pretty open minded.Ack wrote: Sure. Do you have a particular genre? And I actually already own SimCity and Eye of the Beholder - two of my favorite games from childhood!

Very standard Wizardry; expect to die a lot and not understand what's going on.marlowe221 wrote:How is Wizardry V Heart of the Maelstrom?

I think I'm just going to borrow the Retro Sanctuary list and see what's interesting.
You've probably already got them, but the DKC games and Super Mario World are hovering right around the $20 mark.
Killer Instinct is also under $20, as is Super Street Fighter II. But you're probably better off with a more modern port of that. Batman Returns is a good brawler.
Plok is a reasonable Euro-style platformer. Cybernator is a good mech-style game, but it also has a lot stripped from its Japanese release. Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts is a bit higher than $20, but is pretty solid. It's also really, really tough. Bet you didn't see that one coming!
Both ActRaiser and ActRaiser 2 hover around the $20-25 range, and are good in different ways.
UN Squadron is a pretty decent shooter for the system. F-Zero is really cheap, as is Star Fox. Both of them are not as technically impressive now, of course.
Illusion of Gaia has its detractors, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
And... that's about all I could find. Man, those prices are up there. Yeesh.

Thanks! Those are good suggestions. I do have a few of them already (Star Fox, ActRaiser, Batman Returns, DKC) but I will keep my eyes peeled for the others.Sarge wrote:I think I'm just going to borrow the Retro Sanctuary list and see what's interesting.

What is Retro Sanctuary exactly?
And prices... well, there's a reason I mostly switched to Genesis/Atari collecting!

Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Retro Sanctuary has a top 100 list that pops up on Google searches, and it was the easiest way to hit the best games and quickly check the going rate on PriceCharting.
I'm sure there are some off-the-beaten-path games that I'd recommend from my collection, but I'm not near it right now.
I can't believe how much some of those games are going for, though.

Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Use a guide. I believe the SNES port has a problem where you are not given a piece of information vital to winning the game.MrPopo wrote:Very standard Wizardry; expect to die a lot and not understand what's going on.marlowe221 wrote:How is Wizardry V Heart of the Maelstrom?

You asked for it! Here's a list of games under $10! All puzzle games and sports games removed!marlowe221 wrote:I don't want to turn this into a "SNES prices are too damn high!" thread, but does anyone have any recommendations for SNES games that are worth playing but also less than $20 in today's wierd retro market?
