Interesting, so old XBLA games transfer over with your gamer tag to the Xbox One? ARKANOID LIVE!

Yes, as long as they are ones compatible with Xbox One.

random thought: I don't understand what the IR Blaster port on the Xbox One S does. At first I thought it was just to plug in an IR extender in case the console is enclosed. But now I've read stuff about hooking up other devices and I'm kind of lost... what exactly is it for?

Not sure what you mean.

The console is designed to be an entertainment hub via OneGuide, and has included an IR blaster in some form to facilitate that. Basically, it can let it control other devices like a universal remote.

The original model, far as I know, didn't integrated one into the console itself, and instead used the Kinect (and had a port on the back if you needed to run an IR blaster to another room). The S integrates one into the front of the console, but again includes the port in case that's not adequate.

Theoretically, HDMI CEC should allow some of that functionality, but maybe it's just simple to make it all IR based.

I think the disconnect is that I apparently didn't/don't know what an IR Blaster is. I thought it was just a range extender to turn a unit on/off when the main IR receiver might be blocked.

I think you're saying I could possibly plug my TV into the IR port and then be able to turn the TV on/off w/ the Xbox? (Though as you stated, the HDMI on the TV may be able to do that too... I know I was able to w/ Shield TV).

You should just be able to set the brand TV in the Xbox settings (or however it wants you to do it) and have it send out a power on signal, unless the built in IR blaster is blocked. If so, you can spend a few bucks to extend it out to where it's not blocked.

Probably more applicable to folks wanting to control things on via Kinect voice commands and all, but they do have a media remote as well.

I think some claimed the S would have/use HDMI CEC, but I see comments to the effect of it not actually having it. Not sure.

thank you for the explanation. Makes more sense now.

I actually have the media remote and it's really nice. Very simple and elegant. I use the console a lot for Netflix/Youtube/etc so this is way better than turning a controller on to pause, etc.

Actually, the only time I've ever played an Xbox game on the TV was when my wife and I played Lego Dimensions. Haha.

So far I've twice ran into French/English versions of games when they were supposed to be US. I caught the one in advance - had to make a return of Rare Replay (and there's a blizzard damn it, i wanted that game in advance).

Do you guys see this a lot since its region free?

I use it to turn on/off my TV, receiver, and cable box. It's nice to just grab the controller, push the power button on it, and have everything come on. Same deal when I'm done, I just shut down the Xbox and walk away. It turns off everything else for me.

Amazon has been pretty bad recently for sending out EU copies of games :P. They just fudged a ton of Call of Duty Infinite Warfare (PS4) orders when it hit around $20ish the other day. They ended up just letting most of the people including myself keep the UK copy and choose between a refund or replacement. Just got my replacement in today was slightly worried I would get a UK version but they sent the right one this time.
