I sooo agree with you. Especially in an RPG where it really just feels like a waste of time. You can kiiiinda justify it in an action game with very limited resources available to the player as a method of making the game legitimately harder (think Ghosts N Goblins), but even then I'd still call it BS :lol:

I agree. And I'd argue that Chrono Trigger remains the only RPG that really did the New Game+ effectively.

The SFC version is probably the "real man's version", or at least the historian's. But the PSP version is considerably more polished, expanded, and complex than the original. Check the list of differences:

You actually don't really replay the game, you go down the other paths. So the characters, story, and many battles are different.

It also wasn't done for artificial longevity, it was done as an easy way to access the other story branches without having to restart the game from scratch, or from a save point. And the final ending is something they added on as a reward for doing so.

That sounds a lot more reasonable than what many other RPGs ask of the player to see the "real ending". And for players who just can't get enough of Tactics Ogre's battles, that's a nice incentive to go back and keep on playing. But I don't see myself personally going back and taking different paths to reach the end again. There's just not enough diversity to the battle system, objectives, and strategical options to warrant the time investment for myself. I know that sounds like I'm talking down TO, but I'm really not. It's a great game, and I'll explain myself better in the review.

I already did a deep dive into such info when it came out and the class system changes turned me off. Like the third post says, sounds like an entirely different game. Probably for better and worse in some ways. I'll check it out someday.

But Sakimoto SNES also makes that version win.

I have no personal frame of reference for if the SNES version is considerably harder than the PS1 or PSP version. I've read people say the PSP version is hardest, the PS1 version is hardest, and the SNES version is hardest. I've never seen a concise consensus. But that doesn't mean I think you're wrong, just clarifying.

Actually managed to squeeze in a few hours of gaming today and finished The Legend of Heroes.

About 16 hours total, but it felt much longer. See, the Dragon Quest effect was present here: 50+% of the game is spent grinding.

Debating what to play next. Maybe something else on the PC Engine. :o

Got a leettle bit further in Tales of Innocence the other day. The bosses have certainly been challenging so far, each more challenging than the last. I just fought the robot and rescued my 5th party member, and holy shit that thing was vicious. I thought we had it cornered pretty well, but once he activated his overlimit and started skating around everywhere, I thought we were super fucked. I can certainly see what Popo meant when he complained about very fast, very painful bosses Xp

I have the first three wishlisted. I'll get 'em eventually!

As far as The Tower of Druaga goes, I've played the emulated arcade version on the PlayStation and PSP, and I also have the Famicom port. It's brutally difficult and not much fun. Yeah I know the PCE game is a remake or sorts but I don't want/need it.
