It's a five second clip, and Zelda has a history of consistently strong titles. Thus, we're willing to give them the benefit of the doubt as to how they're going to work this in. Sonic has had a history of going down since the end of the Genesis (though a few here will argue for some solid titles on the Dreamcast). Thus, everything that's a departure from S3&K is seen as a bad thing. Back in the day, Sonic Spinball wasn't bad, since Sonic still had street cred.MaliceValentine wrote:I like the fact theres barely no bashing on the fact links in a freaking train.....the zelda universe doesnt have friggen steam powered locamotives when has it ever????
So lets get this straight we give Sonic an ear bashing for a werehog but Link the hero of time as a train conductor isnt stupid -____-
You people sicken me. I freaking hate how Nintendo get away with garbage.....

Agree. It's a nice optional tool. Some games it's perfect for (crossword puzzles for instance!) other games it just feels clumsy to me. That's why I never got Phantom Hourglass. I had tried playing a Wario platformer (forget which) and it was so awkward to me. You used "regular NES control scheme" for most of it, but then you needed to draw patterns with the stylus to do certain moves. Pain in the ass.
Re: New Zelda title announced at GDC 2009 Nintendo Keynote
Indeed. Did you ever play, oh shoot, which one is it... I believe it's Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow where you're fighting this boss using only the traditional controls then in order to "finish off" the boss you have to whip out the stylus and draw a crazy symbol in less than like 2 seconds? Nonsense.noiseredux wrote:... but then you needed to draw patterns with the stylus to do certain moves. Pain in the ass.
Another point I'd like to raise: Did Epona die?
Re: New Zelda title announced at GDC 2009 Nintendo Keynote
Actually, for me, it wasn't the stylus control in Phantom Hourglass that annoyed me. I enjoyed it in a few ways. The use of the stylus to control the boomerang was one of my favorite parts, in fact. Not to say I wouldn't mind using traditional controls. But the stylus use didn't break the game like some of you are suggesting, in my opinion.
It was the Temple (of Time maybe? I forget the name...) that you had to keep returning to which ruined the game for me. I got pretty far into the game, but having to constantly go back to the same place got really redundant, regardless of how many new floors and puzzles it introduced. And the save points along the way didn't make up for it.

Yeah, the crests and the ice blocks that you could tap after beating the laser boss were both incredibly tacked on. And you never saw them in the other two DS Castlevanias. I don't think Zelda's touch felt tacked on, since they set out with the goal of an entirly stylus driven game, and I feel it worked for them. It's when developers were doing things like "Oh yeah, we have a touch screen, let's add something to use it" that it annoyed me.KennerBoy wrote:Indeed. Did you ever play, oh shoot, which one is it... my thoughts exactly. I got midway through the game and just couldn't play it anymore. I was bored.glynnahab wrote:Actually, for me, it wasn't the stylus control in Phantom Hourglass that annoyed me. I liked that. Plus- if you didn't do it in time the boss only had a little bit of life to him anyway. It made this great panicked moment. Although- i did play it after i played lost winds. Where every magic move you do in that game involves drawing something on the touch screen. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it really should've, but didn't. That whole situation might have slanted my view of things. And by the by- lost winds wasn't that bad. Once you got over that magic thing it was a fun game.KennerBoy wrote:Indeed. Now- I am all for bringing some new ideas to the zelda franchise. It desperately needs a breath of fresh air. However, i don't think that being like "check it out! motherfucking train!" and then changing nothing else in the world link is in really works at all. On the other hand, if they said to themselves, ok... trains. What other technology does this mean for the world? Should we go steampunk/magic? How does this impact and change the same save the princess plot of the legend of zelda? What would gannon do with this tech? What i'm saying is that rather than a realized idea and complete world it screams tacked on idea. You know... from the 5 second clip of a game that is still in production...
Re: New Zelda title announced at GDC 2009 Nintendo Keynote
Ditto. That really was a pain. And now that you mention it in that light, I guess the castlevania rant I had is a little silly. That bit of excitement is pretty cool. Never thought of it that way...nickfil wrote: I got midway through the game and just couldn't play it anymore. I was bored.
Re: New Zelda title announced at GDC 2009 Nintendo Keynote
That's what I'm saying. We have such little information other than: Phantom Hourglass engine, controlling at least one type of enemy, and a train. So I'm not going to pass judgement on the train yet.nickfil wrote:Now- I am all for bringing some new ideas to the zelda franchise. It desperately needs a breath of fresh air. It looks like it's an annoying fight just for the lack of room, but I like the way it's body is split between the two screens, actually. I think if I were playing it my eye would just assume the two images were togetherAck wrote:I'm ok with the train, but definitely not liking the way that boss fight was set up. I thought they said they were making a Wii specific Zelda like 3 years ago or so. Something after Twilight Princess. When they announce this I will be interested.
