Hey, if you want to butcher the English language, I can't stop you from being wrong.Exhuminator wrote:I hope everyone remembers that the PS2 is retro.o.pwuaioc wrote:I hope everyone remembers to post that in threads you express a positive opinion of something.
I just can't see the point of a forum if someone's opinion is immediately shot down with a "don't give a fuck." Why the hell are you even here then? To spam your review site?
By god man, thousands of your posts are just about how much you like something, and yet you go and be a dick to Dave. You can try to bring up irrelevant past discussions, but you're still just a hypocritical dick.
Re: What happened to beat em' ups?
Metacritic has it at 70, which is a'ight. Definitely some detractors in there.
I already know it's a game that won't appeal to me; it's far too bloody and crass for my tastes from everything I've read.
Can I point out that dsh literally called his post insane? Because that is what prompted the snarky response, I'd wager. If he had just said he disagreed and extolled the game's virtues, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Re: What happened to beat em' ups?
I would challenge anyone to actually claim that the "feel" of MRB's combat is anywhere even close to being as good as Streets of Rage 2. It's also nowhere near as fun to play, and SOR 2 didn't have boss battles that are as cheap and contrived as the ones in MRB are.dsheinem wrote:This is insane. There's quite a few "classic" beat 'em ups I could name that are better than MRB (I just did in fact), as well as plenty of modern brawlers released in the past couple of years that are better than MRB making your claim of it being the best 2d beat 'em up of the past decade rather dubious. It's nowhere near as good as:
The Dishwasher Vampire Smiles - This would be my pick for the best 2d beat 'em up of the past decade
A King's Tale Final Fantasy XV
Castle Crashers - Blows Mother Russia Bleeds right out of the water
Charlie Murder
and probably some others I'm forgetting
And let me just state right here that "critical consensus" is not an argument that works with me because many "critics" today are either poorly skilled gamers or completely uneducated gamers. I have seen many good games get bashed by critics. Their opinions are no more valid than anyone else who plays video games and I generally get more valid opinions on games from forums, youtube, or social media sites than I do "critics". Being a professional critic does not elevate one's opinion in my eyes, if anything it actually lowers it.

Wait... you are expecting someone to behave like an adult on the internet!? I kid. I'm with you... what kind of ass posts to crap on someone's interests and likes?

I think Dave was expressing his disbelief. Note that he said "this" and not "you're." One's mild hyperbole, the other's assholery.Sarge wrote:Metacritic has it at 70, which is a'ight. Definitely some detractors in there.

The whole internet has been 4channed, Redditted, and Facebooked to death now. Everything's a mean and community is all about one upping others through images. (Not singling out Exhum here, actually noticed it prevalent on all the major VG forums, one of the many reasons I've almost entirely stopped posting in places.)BogusMeatFactory wrote:Wait... you are expecting someone to behave like an adult on the internet!? Some cool recommendations here, got plenty more games wishlisted now.
This is a bit tangential, but I've always wished there were more beat 'em ups in the vein of Kung Fu on the NES. Single plane of movement, meant to be played through in a single setting, and most enemies are dispatched with one or two attacks, instead of having to spend what sometimes feel like minutes dispatching just popcorn enemies. I guess The Dishwasher games would kind of qualify, other than being considerably longer.

Admittedly I don't play FIFA games, so I didn't know that was a thing. Huh.BogusMeatFactory wrote:Fifa isn't just playing soccer. There is now an adventure game campaign mode where you make choices that affect the outcome of a fictional player. You also can be a football manager.

I don't technically have a "review site", for the record. But if you're talking about my HLTB link, I'll gladly delete it from my sig, just for you buddy. And if you must know, I come here to talk to the genuinely pleasant members who aren't derogatory interlopers like yourself.o.pwuaioc wrote:Why the hell are you even here then? You're an out of your element dick, who isn't aware of my past history with Dave, or how often he is an officious pedant to myself, much as he was an officious pedant to Juan earlier.o.pwuaioc wrote:yet you go and be a dick to Dave / you're still just a hypocritical dick / I like to say dick, could be Freudian
Which proves you didn't see Dave's last snarky post towards me this past Friday. But please do continue to insult me without a proper frame of reference.o.pwuaioc wrote:Everything's a mean and community is all about one upping others through images.
I know right? I can't believe Dave called Juan insane for not liking Mother Russia Bleeds.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I'm with you... what kind of ass posts to crap on someone's interests and likes?
