Such a tough question. I'll take a shot at it though. Note that most of my games are RPGS, because it's my favorite genre. Also the games really aren't in any specific order, just 10 of my favorite titles.

Baldurs Gate 2 -- So much stuff to do in this game and so many party variations with all the different kits. The game also has some of the best characters around. Minsc is probably one of my favorite characters ever...and Boo is easily the best (and only) miniature giant space hamster in the history of gaming.

Planescape Torment -- Easily my favorite plot and dialogue in a video game. The Nameless One is probably my favorite lead character in a game, mainly because the story surrounding him is the most intriguing.

Chrono Trigger -- Flat out just a really fun game. It's a quick play through and it never ceases to be enjoyable to me. Love the characters, the game play, the music and just about everything about the game.

Suikoden 2 -- I love the Suikoden series, and this is my favorite one that I've played (never played 5 yet). Love the interaction between protagonist and Jowy. I really just love the gameplay of the series.

Wizardry 8 -- I've loved the Wizardry series for a long time. I particularly love the fact that no one I know has every played any of them. The last outing is easily my favorite though. All of the classes in the game are useful and you really have to plan out how you want your party to develop.

Final Fantasy 6 -- This game is just like Chrono Trigger for me...it's a game that is just flat out fun to me. It's the pinnacle of the FF series IMO.

Zelda: LttP -- I was a big time Sega fan and I only had a Genesis for nearly the whole 16 bit era. When I finally got a SNES around the time the era was winding down, this was the first game that I got. I don't know if it's the best Zelda game, but it's personally my favorite.

Super Mario World -- If I only had 10 games, I'd have to have a damn Mario game. Tough choice between this and Mario 64, but I'd be comfortable with this one. I think it took everything that I liked about Mario 3 and just expanded upon it.

SMT: Nocturne -- One of the only recent games that never left my system once after I got it. A dungeon crawler mixed with monster collecting really does it for me. I also love the out of the ordinary setting of Megami Tensei games.

FFT -- Still my favorite SRPG, probably because I get a good strategy game mixed with FF classes.

10 games to play for the rest of my life? Easy: (in no real order)

Shenmue 1/Shenmue 2 - Best games ever. I loved the first one and beat it 4 times, and just started my file on the European version of 2 today. I love this game more than I could ever describe.

D2 - Incredibly underrated game. The graphics, style, gameplay and especially storyline and atmosphere are phenomenal.

JGR/JSRF - This needs no explanation.

The Getaway - The first game I played that presented itself more as a film than a game. As much as I hate Playstations, I own one just for this.

Earthbound - Again, this one needs no explanation. I came across a complete copy for extremely cheap and at the urging of my friend purchased it and fell in love.

Super Street Fighter 2 - A classic. This game represents thousands of hours of kicking the shit out of my friends.

Harvest Moon: A Wonderfull Life - Truly greater than the sum of its parts. No one can explain how something as mundane-sounding as a "farm simulator" can be so endlessly entertaining.

Yoshi's Island - The gameplay and look of this game is what every Mario platformer should be. And the music will be forever etched into my brain.

GTA3 - This is the game that got me into gaming, which led to me getting into retro gaming. And it's my favorite of the series.

Sega Rally - for the Saturn. Best racing game ever. Period.

Im interested to hear everyone elses favorites too.

Ah, so replayability is a big factor here. That being the case, here's my list (in alphabetical order, 'cuz it was hard enough to decide):

Chrono Trigger (SNES): I'm not afraid to admit that this is the first video game that's ever made me cry. Beautiful story, fantastic characters, interesting locations, excellent battles, lots of hidden stuff, and highly replayable. Best RPG I've ever played.

Civilization III (PC): If I were stuck with the single player mode I don't think I'd pick this, but I have so many fond memories of playing this with other people, amassing huge armies and amazing technological advancements, and then conquering the globe. So many options, too.

Super Mario RPG (SNES): This is tied with EarthBound for second-favorite SNES RPG, but this one wins because you can swap out party members and play minigames and can execute timed hits. Just one of those games I played over and over in my childhood.

Heroes of Might and Magic III (PC): I've lost track of how many custom-designed maps I've made for this game, and how many evenings I spent bonding with my sister and my girlfriend and various guy friends while playing Heroes III. Tactics, adventuring, city building, and just enough micromanagement--a perfect blend of genres, and the game is totally different depending on who you play as.

Master of Orion II (PC): During my semester abroad in Spain, this was basically the only game that would work on my computer, and I played it constantly to escape from the fact that I really wasn't enjoying my trip (story for a different time, I guess). Even after 3 1/2 months, the game remained fresh, and it's still fresh today. Great variety of races, planets, and random events, and everything is highly customizable.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection (GC): Mega Man is my all-time favorite video game series, so this is a no-brainer, even though some of the ports aren't perfect and the controls are all backwards. Choosing the bosses in any order; stealing their cool weapons; looking at pretty graphics and listening to awesome music; platforming through some brilliant and difficult challenges... Mega Man captured my attention early on and hasn't let go. If collections aren't allowed, then I'm going with Mega Man 9--MM4 is still my favorite, but the Endless Attack mode alone makes MM9 the clear choice if that's the only game I'll be playing over and over.

No One Lives Forever (PC): It's funny; the 60s setting and the voices are perfect; it's got a wide selection of weapons; the levels are well-designed and take you all over the world (and beyond... so cool!); and the fact that you can sneak or go in with guns blazing makes the game that much better. No backstory here; it's just a great FPS.

SimCity 2000 (PC): I've been building landscapes and cities with this game since elementary school, and it's still a blast, especially when flying through some of my crazier cities with SimCopter (great game). I can create whatever I want at my own pace without any competition (unless I ask for it). Fun.

Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (PC): The single-player mode of JKII is my least favorite in the series, but I've always liked its multiplayer the best, which is probably what I'd end up playing more often for the rest of my life. Lightsaber combat is outstanding (though not quite as robust as in JKIII), force powers are wicked cool, and the dismemberment cheat code is awesome, in a morbid kind of way.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC): Gorgeous locations, clever challenges, strong characters, oodles of choices, wonderful voice acting, so much to do, and one or two of the most incredible plot twists I've ever seen. Just barely behind Chrono Trigger in my book.

In order..

10.Dead Space- One of the finest gaming experience I've had recently and the only game I've ever been scared while playing. The node upgrade system was really cool and almost original!

9.Jak II/Jak 3- I liked the first one...but man do I love these two. There honestly really well written, the jokes are actually funny and the serious parts are actually serious. The mix of different gameplay styles really makes this game worth playing a long time in one setting because it usually doesn't get boring.

8.Rogue Galaxy- A brilliant hidden gem if I've ever seen one, great voice-acting, great storyline, and one of the finest combat/leveling systems I've ever come across. I rented it and came close to beating..and I just recently picked it up for real.

7.Metal Gear Solid 3- My least favorite in the series, but I still like it more than about 90% of the games I play. I just like it less because the other 3 I have an emotional attachment to them and this one I didn't. However I'd be lying if I said I didn't wimper like a baby at the ending.

6.Zombies Ate My Nieghbors-I'm buying a Genesis just to buy this game for it. I spent hours upon hours playing this game summers at my grandparents house. It's one of the funnest games to play with a buddy to kill an afternoon.

5.Kingdom Hearts II- Loved em both, but I spent a lot of time doing everything in the second one.The first I didn't do too much extra, but the second I destroyed, I remember spending a whole afternoon fighting Sephiroth :)

4.Metal Gear Solid 2- Some say it's the weakest in the series, but I will never in my life forget the feeling I had during my first playthrough. I just remember the end when that crazy stuff happens, I thought my ps2 was acting up(I was young) so I turned it off and had to return the game(rented)..than finally saw the ending almost a year later.

3.Resident Evil 5- I know it just came out but I can't QUIT playing it. It's such a great game and I've almost gotten every little thing done.

2.Metal Gear Solid 4- I had my friend stay the night just to play this game through because I didn't have a ps3 at the time. Stayed up alllllllll night and beat it, threw up the next night. I bought the game before I bought my ps3. The final boss can only be described as EPIC!!!! Also act 4 and it's taste of nostalgia was great.

1.Metal Gear Solid- The best game I've ever played. Just thinking about the game makes my spine tingle. There were so many things in that game that make it more than a game, it's an experience. I've never ever felt as passionate about a game(or series for that matter) as I do Metal Gear Solid. I remember it's one of the only games my brother and I ever shared an interest in...and he would always have to beat Vulcan Raven for me because I couldn't do it and because he scared me(I was seven when it came out) and when I finally beat him myself(years later when I picked the game back up) it made me feel like I was finally a good gamer.

"Top 10 games" and "only 10 games" are two very different questions. Does this assume I'd still have an online connection, or is this a desert isle kind of question? Also, are compilations in or out? That could buff up the game count quite a bit, depending on the collection.

All I know is Ikaruga would be on there somewhere.

in no particular order....

Super Mario World(SNES)

The Best 2d sidescrolling platform I have ever played. Just a lot of fun and great gameplay like all the Mario titles, but if I have to choose one this would be it. Lots of hidden stuff too that gives it a lot of replay value.

Metal Gear Solid(PSX)

If I had to choose one to play the rest of my life it would probably be the Twin Snakes remake for the Gamecube, but I have to give props to the original. My first year of college one of my neighbor brought this game back from christmas break. Him and I and another guy(who are all friends to this day) played through it together, each of us taking turns at different points while the others watched. We ended up going through it again cause we didn't save Meryl the first time. Great gameplay and great cinematic value, I had as much fun watching as playing.

Burgertime(Arcade)

Simply put, my favorite classic arcade game. Pretty simple concept, your a chef trying to make hamburgers while hotdogs and eggs try to stop you. So simple and silly yet so addictive, great music too.

Street Fighter 2 CE(Arcade)

I own the machine. I couldn't tell you how many quarters I've put into this machine over the years. From the years of being 12 to 14 I was obssessed with this game.

Sim City 4(PC)

We've all played the Sim City games and know how addictive they are. You'll sit down and it will be 4 hours later without you knowing it. I chose the 4th installment because I still take it with me on business trips and flights and its simply all the great parts of the original, just prettier.

NHL 94(Sega Genesis)

I couldn't tell you how much time me and my buddies spent playing this growing up. Sure, if didn't have fighting, but you could make little Wayne's head bleed and it had one-timers! I still remember my line combinations.

Mario Kart Wii(Wii)

I could put in any Mario Kart title here, but I choose the latest because it has racetracks from all the previous games and I love the steering wheel control. Many late nights after after the bar or just not going to the bar and drinking with the roomates were spent on the n64 installment of this series during my college years.

WWF No Mercy(N64)

The best wrestling game ever made. Yes, I like prowrestling, well not as much anymore, but I was a slappy back in the day and through until the Rock and Stone Cold eras. This game has the best wrestling engine to date and the best create a player I have ever seen. So much so that I still have a copy of this game where Andre the Giant(unlockable)is the only actual wrestler left on the game as my roommates and I in college replace them all with created wrestlers of our whole group of friends. When I dated my wife for awhile and my one roommate added her, I told her that meant we were serious. lol

The Secret of Monkey Island(PC)

I have a copy of this game with Monkey Island 2, so if I had to choose one disc I would take that with both, but I don't think that's within the rules. Great story, some of the puzzles are impossible, but so much enjoyment from solving them. First and only game I can remember calling a hotline for tips.

Conker's Bad Fur Day(N64)

What more could you ask for? Great platforming, hilarious story, nice graphics and a bonus multiplayer mode. If there is any game out there that needs a sequel, this is it.
