Yeah it is. They consider any newer revision of a system, even if the hardware hasn't improved internally going backwards. They only allow lateral and upwards movement.

Accounts though, that should be patchable into the 3DS so in theory you should be able to just have them ope up their lock n key vault of your goodies and download them if they so choose to allow it.

I'm trying to skim around all these big posts... but are Wii U or 3DS VC purchases going to migrate over?

That's what I'm hoping for, it's what I have been questioning as a possibility.

If they've really killed off the system based accounts, for a user based account, one would hope they had the class and responsibility to do the right thing and bind those system bound games to an account.

I'd love that answer as much as you would as I have stuff my WiiU had and 3DS has I'd love to bust open on the Switch if they get them(as they get them over time.)

In the "Good, Bad, Ugly" section of the last game informer the bad section stated.
Nintendo plans to offer GameCube Virtual Console platform, according to multiple sources at Eurogamer. While we're excited that three GC titles appear to be already prepared for the Switch - Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and Super Smash Bros. Melee - it's unfortunate that the report says gamers "should" have to pay a fee to upgrade previously purchased virtual console titles.
Definately not a complete confirmation or even that solid a reporting job, but honestly Nintendo hasn't exactly been spectacular with this in the past.

Mario Sunshine requires analogue triggers, which the Switch doesn't have.

I full expect that those Gamecube games will not be happening any time soon.

If they do, expect to have to buy a new controller that adds trigger functionality.

Maybe they'll release it alongside the rumoured Smash 4 for Switch and it'll have the Gamecube button layout too. If so, I think I might just use that for every switch game in future

Analogue triggers was the greatest controller innovations to follow after the analogue stick became the norm (except for, perhaps, rumble). Why in God's name has Nintendo decided for the last 11/12 years, despite utilising them well with the GameCube controller, that they're no longer needed? I don't get it.

I believe Sony also removed similar tech from the PS2 to the PS3 Dualshock, IIRC MGS3 had a lot of context sensitive inputs for actions.

I dunno. I don't think analog triggers are useful for anything outside of racing games.

I would take HD rumble over analog triggers any day.

Can't tell if serious... :P

The HD rumble thing seems so goofy, cracks me up.

I'm not defending the triggers though. I hate the Gamecube controller regardless, lol.
