scientists are video game nerds too

Post by vash23n »

just studying some zoology for a test i have tomorrow and i came upon the following:

"Butler and Hodos provided an explanation of how the paired eyes of vertebrates evolved from unpaired, median ocellus of an amphioxus-like ancestor. The homeotic gene Pax-6 is responsible for the formation of an eye-producing region near the midbrain. Products of another gene, Sonic hedgehog, suppress Pax-6 expression at the midline, thus forming paired, lateral eyes. In mice, genetic manipulations that produce an absence of Sonic hedgehog result in formation of an unpaired, median eye."

too bad this scientist was a sega guy... jk.

I still like the fact that one of the guys at CERN looks like Gordon Freeman and ran with it, thanks to Valve:

There's also Pikachurin, and Zbtb7 was originally called Pokemon, before Nintendo threatened to sue for associating their franchise with a potential cancer gene.
