So many politicians these days come out of the business world instead of the legal world, and business is all about taking credit and superlatives. Trump's big difference is that he's also a celebrity (with all the good and bad connotations that brings with it). Most politicians are used to being important, but not to being celebrities, not the way the Kardashians are, for example. Businesspeople are always big on wiggle words and obscuring language. Lawyers tend to be more precise, and for that reason we need more of them in government. Scientists, too. We need more folks in elected positions for whom precision in language is a natural part of their life.

That sounds like intellectual elitism to me.marurun wrote:Lawyers tend to be more precise, and for that reason we need more of them in government. Scientists, too. We need more folks in elected positions for whom precision in language is a natural part of their life.

I think business folks can be precise too. It's just that this one isn't.
Re: World is Falling Apart Thread (Be nice;stop changing tit
Oh, they can be. But the idea of "buzzwords" came out of business. You know, words that sound cutting edge but their meanings are... ambiguous, and fuzzy. Businesspeople like to make same-old sounds like shiny-new without giving away any details.Sarge wrote:I think business folks can be precise too. It's just that this one isn't.

I can say that about so many fields, but you're right. Buzzwords are useful for marketing purposes.
Which, in a way, is an important part of politics!

I think we'd benefit from a wider mix of professions in politics too. We have a decent mix of former military, a few physicians, and quite a few lawyers and business people. It would be nice to see representation from other sectors of healthcare, education, arts, and blue collar positions, among others.

I would very likely vote for you. Better choice than Kanye, anyway.Sarge wrote:Imma run for President in 2020.

I disagree with Sarge a lot, but definitely Sarge over Kanye. Take him over Trump in a heartbeat, too, but that's a pretty easy pick. It would be an insult to Sarge to suggest it is even close.

Now there's a thought, run for office.
If I thought I could stir up enough support, cash out of thin air, and discontent for that rotting corpse of a jackass McConnell I'd love to pick him off, but at a lower level that lying shmuck of a cretin former owner/editor of the LEO that is the county house rep Yarmuth. Problem is unlike Trump who goes insane saying things about the made up stuff of the media, Yarmuth actually does do that. I pity anyone running against him no matter how clean they are as he's got tentacles into that machine.
