It can:

It can also look like a SNES, a Genesis, a 2600, or any other console your heart may desire.

I have been giving some serious thought to a Retropi set-up for my 1080p tv in our living room. If I do it, I think I would be happy to spend the extra money to have a cool case for it like one of those.

So news out now 2 more proof of concept.
1) Nintendo 64 (mupen64plus) a long video where it starts out terrible but as you watch take notes of the tweaks to retroarch/core. In the end it's up around 30fps giving smooth game play with Mario64, Wave Race and Mario Kart 64.

2) 32X -- Long video again, seems to run fine stock, look like most the 32X library was shown off and it ran smooth.

Getting hard to excuse Nintendo for not having any of these on the shelf in mid February.

No that was a lie started by trolls. I don't feel like googling it but Nintendo a week or two back put it out there that not only is that a lie but they're ramping up production. And in turn while you can't find it now, they have some big dump to the market date coming anytime either this month or by the middle of March where major retailers are going to get a nice supply of them. I guess instead of trickling them out for subhuman scalper garbage to pick them off they'll bulk drop them at stores so anyone who wants one can line up and get one.

Yeah, I posted this in the random gaming thoughts thread. I have my suspicions that the margins aren't as high as we think on these systems, and that they're training their guns on the Switch.

Now I really want one, though. Hopefully my coworker will actually get one for her anniversary, and I can get that one back. ;)

I doubt it's a margin thing, unless they're going by potential per-ROM value compared to Virtual Console. They could easily have repackaged it into a pricier version - one with more games, or two controllers with decent cord length, and likely not had people complain.

Since they never actually seem to have met consumer demand, despite having it demonstrated from day one, it's hard to say. Most likely, as mentioned, put focus on the Switch instead. Still, it's not a move that'll foster much consumer goodwill.

A lot of people are pissed off. To be honest, I'm kinda surprised people still care and still can't get one, I thought the hype would have died down pretty damn quickly. I mean, it's cool, don't get me wrong, but it really is just an emulator in a pretty looking box. To me it was just a stop gap to fill the big wide hole between the Wii U being dead and the Switch not being out. It wasn't supposed to be something with a big, long release.

Oh well, I'm glad I got one and that it was a piece of piss to find.
