I played the Beta and while I applaud their modifications to make the 3d game more C&C fan ready (ie left click is an option by default), it just fell short. The game played like a bad mix of Red Alert 2 and Generals. Meaning it had the style and overall feel of Generals but it had the gameplay catch of RA2 - bizarre quirkiness and fast. Sadly it tries to be a lot and fails on many levels.

Apparently alot of the bugs have been ironed out and apparently the Coop Campaign is divine, but I am still hesitant. Probably because I am one of the crazy lot that still thinks 2d RTS are better than 3d (Supreme Commander being the exception to the rule).

I personally enjoyed RA3. I feel that the 3D RTS doesn't really differ from the 2D RTS, so it's just the next entry in the series. While Generals went the SC route, they came back to the C&C style with C&C3 (option for left click action, the sidebar) but still made improvements, such as multiple construction buildings giving multiple queues instead of multiples simply reducing the build time. If you played C&C3 then you'll probably like this one.

Do you really think it's the graphics that make the difference? I'd understand if you said "old school RTS are better than new ones", but graphics are a separate issue from gameplay. In other genres, this isn't an issue at all. A game like Viewtiful Joe plays exactly like a 2d side scroller, even though it has 3d graphics. 3d shmups like Radiant Silvergun or Einhander are every bit as good as classic 2d shooters. There are tons of 3d RPGs on the PSX that stand up very well to the 2d RPGs on the SNES.

It's not the graphics, it's the gameplay. Sprites or models don't make a bit of difference. It's just a historical accident that RTSs started to suck around the same time 3d graphics became prevalent. Sorry about the thread jack.

yea, i have always been a fan of C&C on the pc, but i noticed they have this one for ps3, and i'm always looking for good co-op games for me and my father, brother and uncle to play. i really liked the graphics, but was wondering if it would be worth paying the $53.00 bucks for it, or if it is one of those to wait till its cheaper.

Sorry I should have specified Hatta. By 2d RTS I meant the gameplay style not the graphics - some also call it fixed camera. As long as the game plays good I have little concern about how it looks. Which would explain why I have Dune 2000, TA, and Warlords Battlecry 3 installed on my lan right now.

But that said I am a left click fan so I am rubbish at the ‘craft series, and I still think Total Annihilation is the king of all RTS.
