Two free Android games I've been enjoying lately...

Bullet Force

This is an online multiplayer focused FPS that does everything right. Multiple modes of gameplay; zone defense, deathmatch, team battle, and more. Intuitive touch screen controls work better than you'd expect. Very lively community with plenty of arenas to choose from. You have the ability to upgrade your character and rank up the boards. Does have optional IAP that isn't necessary to enjoy the game. (If you are fighting against someone with a P2W gun, just headshot them, and take their gun, I do it all the time.) If you see "Exhuminator" running around, yep, that's me. Shoot me before I shoot you!

Darkness Survival

Brutal roguelike with a heavy Dark Souls influence, reminds me of Shadow Tower at times. Has very intricate game systems, is quite polished, and is kick your teeth in hard. Take your time and play carefully to succeed, but dying is expected and rewarded! Yes when you die, you get bonuses that carry over, so it's never a pure waste. This game also has IAP, but again, not necessary to succeed. I'd go so far as to say only wussies will buy the IAP. Game has a plot that slowly unravels as you proceed. If you enjoy roguelikes (bless you if you do), definitely give this a fair shake.

Yeah. It seems fine in small burst, but knowing you it'd probably just make you want to rant.

My biggest issue with it is the time it takes it to find a suitable matching partner to play with. I'm sure it takes as long as it does because it's trying to find someone with a similar level number (which is good), but it just feels so looooong....

alright well I finally spent some time with Pokemon Duel... and I think it sucks. The whole spinning wheel thing. Ugh. It just feels so... alright I know this won't make ANY sense but whatever: the spinning wheel feels like this is just a big game of luck. But the rational side of me knows that really it's not all that different from rolling dice or even the hidden RNG's of other strategy or RPG games or whatever. But, yeah. I just don't find this one appealing at all which is too bad because I wanted to.

I am however playing the heck out of Tiles & Tales lately. It's the perfect game to play when I'm tired on the couch and half watching TV. It's one of those sort of Puzzle Quest/etc games but man, it's really enjoyable and if you play well it is really generous with in game currency and you can keep yourself leveled up and never feel like you need to spend a buck to proceed. At least that's how it's been for me over the course of maybe four hours or so?

I had no idea it was part of the Puzzle Quest series! I started playing that on my DS (finally) and now there's THIS! Plus, I can play it on my Android phone, Amazon tablets (it's in their appstore!) and on the PC through Steam! I spent a LOT of money on Pokemon Go, I hope this really won't go the same way, but I love Puzzle Quest. I really need to get the PC version of that again too.

It is really fun. You collect comic covers to add and then enhance hero and villain characters. I have not spent any money and have managed a fairly competent roster. There are some interesting interactions between character powers, too.

I'll mention two Android games bought recently and enjoyed:

Image
THE aMAZEing Labyrinth
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... inth&hl=en

It's the classic Labyrinth board game, but with some extra twists on top, plus AI support. I particularly like the duel mode.

Image
Talisman: The Horus Heresy
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... orus&hl=en

Here's the classic board game Talisman but flavored with Warhammer 40,000 styling. If you're a fan of either you'll have a good time.

If you're wondering why board games, it's because both my wife and I enjoy them. We've got a large Android tablet kept in the bed drawer full of games like this, and we tend to play them at night just before she goes to sleep. I really appreciate all the virtual board games on Android, as they are quick to initiate (compared to setting up a physical board game) and support suspend mode to continue game sessions. I'm thinking about creating a thread just about Android versions of board games actually.

any of you guys use Kindle Fires for gaming? My wife has one that's a little long in the tooth right now. But I'm curious how the new ones are gaming-wise? I mean, the price is tough to argue with. But my concern is that not having access to the Play Store proper - as Amazon wants you to buy apps from them - would be too limiting; and I'm just not sure how well games even work on the thing. Like, how robust is the CPU?

Isn't it possible to sideload the Play Store on a Kindle Fire?
