Saturn Slim DVD Covers now open

Post by durkada »

A few announcements regarding the Saturn Slim DVD Covers project.

* The project has moved to http://www.saurianunderground.com/saturn.

* The covers are now open upon completion. Originally, there was a process by which a user could contribute a quality cover and could then download a couple in return. Today, simply point your browser to http://www.saurianunderground.com/gallery2 and download.

Sweet! I have been really exited about this project! And I love the link to the cases! http://www.meritline.com/black-single-s ... cases.html
100 for 21 bucks+free shipping. SWEET! :D

Wait, why use high quality JPEGs? I mean, PNG is just fine. Plus it's lossless. *sigh* Everyone seems to snuff PNG :(

btw, how do we download them? When you go to the gallery, do you just right click and save? As, when I do that at "full size", the front cover of say, panzer dragoon disc 1, the right side with the picture looks like shite. If that is how I'm supposed to print it, I guess I'd just have to soften it a bit to get rid of the compression artifacts...I know you didn't make the site or anything ( or did you contribute? or are one of the two head peeps?), but if you know from personal experiance, that would be cool to tell me :)

PNG is a great format, and will hopefully become more widely adopted. However, JPG still maintains smaller files at the highest quality setting -- and frankly, I've not been able to discern a difference between one save and the next. I understand that JPEG corrupts as it saves, but in this case, its fairly negligible.

There are a few ways to download the images. Obviously, you can open up the largest version of the image "3150x2175" and then do the ol' right click/save-as combo. But easier, is simply looking at the drop-down menus and adding items to a cart. Upon doing so, you can later download many covers at once -- all combined into a convenient zip file.

I agree, some of the covers are less than optimal. In many cases, people without scanners and source material are relying on what is available on popular sites to create their covers. Those sites have scanned images largely as reference material and not for our own particular vein of collage -- thus, the images are often sub-par.

Remember, the Slim DVD project is a project without end. Other people will create Panzer Dragoon Saga cover sets, and some will be better than others. If you have some original material, please scan it :)

The gallery, as mentioned above, will also contain source material people -- like you, hopefully -- scan and upload. With various images, others can then manipulate the graphics and create new covers.

Furthermore, pretty soon, PSX Slim DVD Covers will be forthcoming... Dreamcast, 3DO, others, to follow.

No, I didn't create the site. I help moderate the forums, have configured much of the Gallery, and generally just try to chip in. A few of the covers posted are mine, hopefully you'll like them.

Cheers

This is pretty cool but I have no idea where to get Slim DVD cases, Wal-Mart or Best Buy? I have no idea where to look but then again I never really looked for them anyway.

It's because there isn't enough room for the memory cards, manuals, etc. Also, considering how small the JAP GCN disc Cases are, it most likely is because people are afraid they could be easy to steal.
