I love Mystery Science Theater 3000. I have a box of MST3K VHS tapes from the show found at Goodwill with gems like Pod People and Manos: Hands of Fate. However, because life happened, my priorities drifted and I took an unintentional several year break from the show. I tried to get back into it by watching "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" on YouTube.
I still like the main "meat" of the show where Mike and the gang are ragging on crummy movies from past decades, but the little skits or puppet shows or whatever padding the in-between bits just do not appeal to me anymore. I've been skipping through them. Anyone else feel the same way?
I love MST3K but the interludes kind of annoy me

Not really. They kind of give the show its flavor and charm.
If you don't want them, Rifftrax doesn't really have them (their new cell phone app thing works really well). I think host segments are limited or not really there for any of the post-MST3k projects actually (Film Crew, Cinematic Titanic, etc).
Also, http://www.club-mst3k.com/ if you aren't already streaming from there.

Looking back, I remember warming up to the skits after several episodes, but it was definitely an "acquired taste" sort of thing. Maybe I just need to re-acquire it. I seem to recall the best bits being when they'd sarcastically re-enact a scene from one of the films.isiolia wrote:Not really. They kind of give the show its flavor and charm.

Rifftrax is the best! I've bought a dozen or so of those hour and a half long MP3 files for feature length movies and perhaps twice as many of their standalone shorts.
Re: I love MST3K but the interludes kind of annoy me
Years ago when they were fresh into it I got a free ticket from a coworker for Rifftrax Live out of TN where they streamed to theaters all over Plan 9 from Outerspace. That was a riot having them tear into that monster.
I never was big, but never was against or tired of the skits. They just moved stuff along, but I would at this point, given I was in a time crunch and needed to save a few minutes not be able fast forwarding through the stuff to stick to the movie.

Some of the skits go on too long, but I still enjoy them occasionally. Alot of them, like the invention exchange, go back to Joel's roots as a prop comic. I do enjoy the earlier sketches alot more than the later ones. I would say I skip them about half the time.
I actually broke my servo dome late last year, so I need a new one.

That's a shame. I loved that Servo.fastbilly1 wrote: I actually broke my servo dome late last year, so I need a new one.

Is that the name of the MST3K arena, the Servo Dome?

I loved the invention exchanges and also the musical numbers were often great

Re: I love MST3K but the interludes kind of annoy me
I never really minded the pre-movie segments such as the invention exchanges and the ones on some of the later seasons, at least for the most part they were following some sort of story arc in seasons 8-10. But they kill one of my favorite episodes, Overdrawn at The Memory Bank. The public television segments after the first one are just unwatchable. There was only one other segment during a movie I enjoyed, Peter Graves Goes To The University Of Minnesota (from Beginning of the End), otherwise I just want to see them go back to the movie.
