I agree with yall that Isolation is a great comparison. I think Isolation did the balance between enemies and atmosphere a little better (RE7 is a little more dependent on ammo scarcity and enemy numbers for the fear, at least at my section), but they're both EXCELLENT examples of what a modern horror masterpiece should be. I'm only a little ways into the game, but IMO, this game more than makes up for the craptastic Resident 5 and 6.

actually it is pretty close. It reminds me a lot of The Evil Dead at moments, and Texas Chainsaw others.

I'll be posting my review in the Games Beaten thread in a few hours. Take a look at that if you're interest is piqued.

So far Texas Chainsaw is spot on. I am a few hours in and love it. Taking time to find every little thing I can. It feels like RE of old just in first person and no tank controls. My only complaint is that it would have been cool if they had added a stamina meter when you run. Otherwise of the games that released this week RE is the big winner.

I LOVE how there's still a quick turn around mechanic.

(granted, I don't think that showed up until RE3 or CV?)

RE3 was the quick turn around.

I'm petrified but will get and start this game tonight. My wife won't watch. When I piss myself I'll be sure to let you all know.

Ooo just looked up where I am in a walkthrough (no cheating, promise, just want to know where I'm at :P) and I'm not far off from the finish as I suspected (especially by what's just happened in the story). I'm intrigued how this ends up linking itself into the Resident Evil lore and fitting into the overall story as such, as I've seen no hints just yet (unless I'm oblivious and have missed them haha).

So yeah, I'm about 80/85 percent of the way through the game and I've loved it so far. I'm looking forward to finishing it and sharing my thoughts on the overall game.

Is everyone else bored of the game or something? Or are you all just too busy playing it to talk about it?

I just completed the game. No spoilers from me, but the last 'stretch' of the game became a bit of a slog. Also, the final boss was... Well, underwhelming in the sense that it was easy as hell.
