I've beaten 1, 4, 5, 8, and 9. Out of all those, 8 was far and away the best. You are in for a great time.prfsnl_gmr wrote:3DS port will be a great way for me to play through VIII. In my quest to complete all of the DQ games, however, I will probably save it for last.
What RPG are you playing right now?

Why VI before V?prfsnl_gmr wrote:I will be buying it. I am still working my way through DQVII, and I think that the 3DS port will be a great way for me to play through VIII. I'm saving the two best games for last.MrPopo wrote:Why VI before V?prfsnl_gmr wrote:I will be buying it. I may switch them around, though, so that I play IV, V, and VI in order. Do you suggest that I do that.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
It's less critical you play IV, V, VI in order than it is to do I, II, III, but they are a loose trilogy. I think the biggest reason to do V before VI is the iterations on the core gameplay.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I'll do that.
I played IV on the NES years and years ago, and long before I had an appreciation for the series. I am looking forward to playing through the DS remake. (I have read that it is excellent.) I am also looking forward to the DS versions of V and VI.
I actually played the first three games somewhat out of order. I played III, then I and II. Since III is the prequel to the first two games, I thought that it worked out well.

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Did you play the first three on NES or the GBC ports? Because if it's the latter then yeah, that seems a reasonable way to go thanks to the improvements. But on the original NES going from III to I and II feels like a massive step backwards.

I've considered playing more Dragon Quest games since there's so many on Android now. I played I-III back in the day, and then didn't play another until VIII in around 2008. And I didn't stick with it long. I did play some of the first game on Android again a year or two ago, but that's about it.

I like VI more than V. Yeah, I'm weird like that.

I played through them on the GBC. I have played around with the NES versions of all three, but IMO, give you a superior experience without sacrificing any of the original games' "integrity" as classic 8-bit RPGs.MrPopo wrote:Did you play the first three on NES or the GBC ports? I'd certainly recommend to anyone to play the GBC versions over the NES versions unless you want to experience the full history and what things were like back in the day. Or if you're masochistic (though that requires you to only use proper saves, no save states).
