Re: Resident Evil series appreciation thread
I watched someone play a little bit of it on youtube
It looks terrifying. The story I find compelling, and the game seems like the perfect middle ground between old school RE and new school RE. And it seems to lean much more towards the former than the latter.
I already pre-ordered it and will play it at some point. I thought about Madhouse difficulty for a first playthrough since the pre order unlocks it from the start, but I'm hearing from some people on reddit that Madhouse difficulty is not designed for new players. It's not just a harder difficulty, but a complete re-working of the game that will confuse a first time player. That is kind of cool and gives the game nice replay value.

Re: Resident Evil series appreciation thread
Holy fuck, this game had me shitting bricks. I had to ditch VR after about 15 minutes - my stomach just can't handle free roam games in VR - but god damn, this game look pretty on PS4 Pro, and it's scary as fuck. Admittedly, I'm not hard to scare (in part, I think, because I LOVE to be scared by games and movies), but holy shit. For those of you who've gotten to this point, you'll know what I mean - the fucking underground maintenance area, man.

No, with the boiler room and the dissection room and the morgue. Although Bodiless Joe did make me scream with his blub blub entrance.noiseredux wrote:With all the water?

ah yes, that part. Well I don't know where you are, so I don't want to spoil anything. But there was just something with a chainsaw that made me literally yell loudly just now. :0

Haha, noise is at the part where I started watching Reprise play yesterday.

Re: Resident Evil series appreciation thread
this game strikes a really great balance so far though. My best comparison is Alien: Isolation, a game that I also love the franchise and was very excited about. However, whenever I try to play that I get so stressed out that I'm like "alright fuck this, I'll try again in a few months." But so far RE7 has been super scary... yet amazing and I want to keep playing. This one is capturing what the 15 year old version of me felt like playing the first game.

The Alien Isolation comparison sounds spot on. My roommate said something similar, he's a huge veteran fan of the series like myself, but thinks this is the first one that's truly freaky.
