Aren't we all supposed to be crotchety geezers shaking our fists at modernity here? This isn't just retro gaming, it's a LIFESTYLE—check the header.
I love this place and y'all.

Yeah, even though lately I've mainly been playing two modern games, I've got a stack of older titles I need to get to, including two that I'm halfway through and just haven't gotten back to because I've been sucked into the modern stuff with friends. I'll probably continue with the modern stuff for a couple of months and then go back to the retro for a while, depending on my mood.

I do have to agree going back and playing Golden Eye after playing more modern FPS games really turned me off the game. I have a similar problem with Gen 1 Pokemon games (Red, Blue, Yellow, and Stadium 1), games I used to love intill Gen 2 came out and was a major upgrade over the original games that I can't play the gen 1 games anymore. So not sure if it's not really considered Not Good or I just shun it due to Gen 2. But to leave on a positive note, I disliked the original Phantasy Star series back when I was in High School, but now I'm having fun mapping the first game's dungeons with graph paper

It's a shame Nintendo and MS couldn't work something out with Goldeneye, since the Perfect Dark remaster is fantastic. I think they wanted to give Goldeneye the same treatment (and were, I believe some footage exists) but they obviously couldn't come to an agreement on it ever coming out.

Yeah, most of my play is modern games these days, but that's mostly because there just happen to be modern games I'm excited about here in the past few months; if you take a look at my Games Beaten thread, I went through several old games consecutively at the beginning of the year.

I find more often it's the reverse for me; sometimes I go back to games I thought were not good, and end up enjoying them after all. First impressions are sometimes colored by outside factors; mood, energy level, false expectation, playing an over-hyped game, etc.

Yeah, I've found that as well.Exhuminator wrote:I find more often it's the reverse for me; sometimes I go back to games I thought were not good, and end up enjoying them after all. At the very least, I don't think a game not holding up to modern standards is necessarily the same thing as not being good. It may still make it harder or less enjoyable to play now, but if that was the best that could be done at the time, then credit where credit is due n' all.
