Resident Evil series appreciation thread

Wow, from the reviews I've read I actually am starting to get interested in it. The one thing I'd still like to hear about is how big is the payoff if you've been following the lore of the series. I know you don't need to have done so to enjoy the game, but is it satisfying to see the connections if you have?

Haha I'm trying to play whilst looking after my 3 and half month old son (and my pesky cat that won't leave me alone), whilst the wife is off to pick something up from the shops.
