I first went to funcoland as a total non gamer. I found most of the kids working there totally useless helping me find games (tell me about the game, how it plays etc.)
after learning more about games on my own I came to like the store a lot, I definitely liked reading the price sheets.
then the store manager sold me a used Saturn and a nice complete copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for $35. he was a cool guy and he did know PDS was a high value collectible. I'm not sure why he sold it to me cheap.

Ocelot, did it again...sorry Boss !
Re: Funcoland
I never went to one. The first game store I frequented was Electronics Boutique. I do miss EB though, and Rhino. Heck, I miss Rhino most of all.

What year is it? what condition? If you have Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection up for trade...well, now we're cooking with gas.
For your viewing pleasure:
Well that's a newer one than I was used to. mine were all black-and-white newsprint.

My pleasure. Yeah, the majority of the old prints I remember were straight up grayscale.racketboy wrote:Thanks for the scans!s1mplehumar wrote:Tough call, Racket. Re: Funcoland
I know this is old, but I loved Funcoland. I think it is an important part of retro gaming. I have started to collect old Funcoland items, although there are not many. The cardboard game sleeves are the most popular...and I have seen a few price sheets. Recently I was lucky enough to pick up this official Funcoland jacket. Apparently it was given to the managers back in the day. I think it is totally rad...I hope to wear it when I go retro game hunting...lol. What do you guys think?

I think Play N trade deals in used games.noiseredux wrote:I forgot about the price lists! so awesome. Yeah I miss them. Wish there were still chains that dealt with used cartridges and games from retro systems. There is a little hole in the wall place near me. But it's so hit or miss.

I had never even heard of this place before I joined Racketboy.
Re: Funcoland
Wow! It was the same story for me. Those were some magnificent times. By the time 98 and 99 hit, the store manager was big into importing for his own purposes. I still remember playing import dreamcast and games like Power Smash, Jet Set, PowerStone, MVC1 and 2, World Impact and 3rd Strike in the store after running out of tokens at the arcade fun center nearby. Fuck! I miss those days with a passion. We had several Funcolands where I lived at the time they were around. I have very fond memories of a specific one. It was in a well trafficked area and you could always find good deals there. It was a gold mine for Saturn games and accessories. The best part? It was 20 ft away from my favorite arcade.

Re: Funcoland
Another thread WISED FROM THE GWAVE!
Funcoland was all over NJ when it was pre-Gamestop. When they first opened, it was a great place. Stations to play many games, the ability to "try before you buy", and it just had a really amazing atmosphere. Many a purchase was made there.
Then get around to the late 90s, when the 5th gen was getting popular, and then everyone got all rude and snarky. Talk (or ask for) anything NES/SNES and get the sneer of doom and poor service because you weren't one of the "current gaming" stable. That was also around the time they started pushing the cleaning kits and club memberships. I remember going in for a big SNES purchase (think I got 5 games for around $40 in '98) and they weren't real happy going through the drawers of games for me. Ugh.
