All I can say is they better nail Zelda. With the simultaneous release on the Wii U it better be the superior version by far or people are going to be pissed. Plus it also better be the game that everyone is hoping for since if it turns out to be a so so sandbox game, "too short", or etc. then the general public is going to butcher this consoles reputation pretty fast.
As it currently stands it feels like 90% of the preorders are thanks to Zelda and people panicking over the strong possibility of a shortage at release. If Zelda for whatever reason doesn't live up to the hype there are going to be a lot of pissed off people.
If I were Nintendo I would have held off on releasing it till at latter in the spring to pad out the Launch titles a bit. Really feels like everything is riding on Zelda since 1-2 Switch feels like it should have been a pack in game, Bomberman R while cool isn't going to hold a ton of people attention for to long, and then you have Skylanders and Just Dance which are nothing ground breaking and available on pretty much all platforms.

But that's my problem man. It feels more like a home console than a handheld. They have a bunch of console like games coming out (zelda, mario, mario kart, splatoon), but no "handheld like" games.Tanooki wrote:And Zero that is WHY I find it the best, it's a handheld with a TV dock that shoots the visual quality up another notch. Huge bonus in my books, and the fact it does really look like they're done being a home console(alone) maker and into a microconsole/handheld maker I'm very happy for them. They couldn't compete in the nasty world big bang console games became, and in the microconsole and handheld world with their pedigree they can easily dominate and survive which is most important.
I was playing my 3DS a lot the previous 2 weeks because I had some super long flights, and I couldn't stop thinking that with the switch we might not ever see games in some of my favorite franchises like Phoenix Wright or Advance Wars, because those games had their existence tied to the success of Nintendo handhelds.
It will be really interesting to see what they do with Pokemon too. Making a fully next-gen graphics pokemon game will probably cost A LOT of money (making all the models for all the critters and what not)

I guess you're only specifically talking about dedicated handhelds. I mean my Droid Turbo 2 outclasses the Shield. But if I were to buy a Switch I would treat it as a handheld for sure.Sarge wrote:I saw this somewhere else, maybe here. In a lot of ways, it's a Super Vita. Outside of the Shield, I don't know that we've seen a handheld quite this powerful.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Switch Discussion Thread
Oh yeah, just dedicated handhelds. My Moto X is also crazy powerful.
I do think Nintendo is going to get a lot of mileage getting away from Android, though. I'm assuming it's not actually running Android, even if it can play those game. I've read there are some things that Android does that are sub-optimal for gaming compared to iOS, so I'm really curious to see what happens when folks can code closer to the metal.

I can see that. To me it feels like console experience on a handheld, just like the Vita did when I had one, or the PSP before that and I don't mind it as long as the variety is there.ZeroAX wrote: But that's my problem man. Last year I did what you did, but it was with my Shield tablet and a steelseries free mobile controller and it was solid. I could both do the console experience, but also my Neo Geo arcade games emulated and typical pick up and play handheld stuff. It's how I relate the Switch. It has had Neo Geo announced from Hamster, it has consoles stuff, and it has portable things too like Binding of Isaac.
It should be interesting entirely with Pokemon. They only took it so far on 3DS but I don't see them being allowed to halfass it so anymore. Perhaps to cut costs and troubles they'll go Wind Waker on it and make it like an interactive cartoon with cel shaded flat imagery with depth to cut costs but look great.

That's always the case. Compare the specs of all dedicated home consoles to PCs. You can get a lot more power if you write a custom lightweight OS and better dedicated tools for development.Sarge wrote:Oh yeah, just dedicated handhelds. My Moto X is also crazy powerful.

I can get why a new Zelda, Xenoblade, or Mario is a draw to the Switch. But a four year old WRPG not so much.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Re: Switch Discussion Thread
if a King's Field game that was older the 4 years was coming out for the Switch, would you be interested in it?
