I wish there were Half Price Books around me. I hate New York.Tanooki wrote:Half Price up the street has a lot of bigbox stuff in since I was last there. All the C&C games from the original through tiberian sun, both star craft and brood war(I bought those), age of empires 2 and expansion, half life and half life GOTY version, various others and they were all in that $6-10 range which was a nice surprise.

I feel that, had the same problem in southern california when I left KY for 3 years. There's not a store quite like that out there other than BookOff (which I miss a lot) but that place was always a long drive to get to.
Also I've had Dragon's Lair aside from GBC on the Wii and the CDi format as well. The Wii one I agree is very cleaned up and refined, very nice. And if you just aren't capable of figuring out what the dumb flashing light wants you can enable some helpful icons to pop up showing which direction to press. Other than not having to deal with some really crude annoying memorization issues the game is no less difficult for it as the timing is still just as picky.

Yeah we have a Book Off here but the prices always seem kind of absurd. Example, saw a copy of Shenmue II for 60$. Seriously? 3x the Ebay price? But that's New York in general for you.
I was watching a youtube channel of a guy buying some games at a Half Price Books in Texas and was shocked by some of the cool stuff they have/deals he was getting, especially with coupons. Nothing remotely close to that out here, only over priced retro stores or people on craigslist trying to sell 10 dollar games for 600$ because they are "RARE."

Well I think I saw that too. I moved back to CA from late 09 into much of 2012 until returning here. During that time they were old school cheap, it was awesome. Then the last 2 years I've traveled back there for a roughly 2 week visit to hit up Disneyland and other stuff for fun. 2 years ago the store I was able to pay $3 and get the most excellent Tetris Advance for GBA (we got denied it because of THQs awful Tetris Worlds license.) But last year when I checked the same store (around paramont, california area) all the stuff was notably higher than ebay unless it was the most common of stuff Japanese included (both ways.) I walked out empty handed, never did that before. Clearly they saw the market and decided to play it high both to profit but also to keep out poachers (and in turn offering more money on trades with higher priced stuff to be competitive.) I can't blame them, but I don't plan to make a point to return unless I'm looking for some manga I'm after.
HBP is mostly a ripoff here, but sometimes they do slip or feel generous, but not enough to ever consider being daily there. Found 4 boxed GBA games days ago, all on the nose but one, Pokemon LeafGreen for 50% of the ebay price (so I grabbed it.) When you score is really when they get to running their 30-50% off coupons. The store has a 7day hold policy they don't suspend in such week long coupon runs. Go there when they open on a Sunday, or if you don't mind 40% off instead, on a saturday and put stuff on the shelf. Come back 7 days later and get a $100 item for $50-60 instead.
The other day I brought up I found bigbox releases of StarCraft and BroodWar for $14 together. I had planned to make the flip, but after a little net research and seeing how I can get them to work still on a modern box earlier ago I decided to keep them. I installed the games, but then realized from an oddball post on reddit I can queue up SC, SCBW, and also Diablo2 and D2 LoD with my old keys into battle.net for modern copies that will stay updated. Score! I'm working to reinstall those games.
Also there's a non-public release on their site, but on the FTP for SC 1.17.1 that fixes the rainbow water problem and a few other glitches and net balancing issues if anyone still plays the old beast.

Just some stuff for the DC.

That VGA to HDMI converter/upscaler is a decent device. I didn't notice any lag.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
I had a copy of SMT: Persona (PSP) show up in the mail yesterday. I only paid a few dollars for it shipped to my house, and it showed up in WAY better condition than I was expecting. Basically, I was expecting a UMD-only copy, but the game showed up with the case and manual...and collector's edition cardboard case...and two-disc soundtrack.
I am happy the game is in such good shape, but I am not sure I want either the outer cardboard case or the soundtrack. Is anyone interested in those? If so, I will trade with anyone for them, and I will send them on to the site's more established members for the cost of shipping. Just send me a PM.
EDIT: ...and, it's gone!

Can you give us an amazon link or something to get a run down on that set of dreamcast parts you picked up? I'm still waffling on going with VGA or not on mine.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Dreamcast over VGA is worth every penny. There are only a handful of games that will not work with it.
Thats actually one of the reasons I joined this site.

I don't see why you wouldn't do VGA unless all you played were games that don't work that way.
