Um this is all pretty underwhelming. What a shitty launch lineup. Has Nintendo learned nothing from the Wii U?

- Gimmicky accessories with ridiculous prices
- A barren, sparse launch lineup
- launch with a gimmicky party game that aims to replicate success of Wii Sports, but probably won't
- Typical Nintendo games
- Quirky Japanese games that don't sell to Western mass audiences

I hope they do more to alleviate my concerns over the coming days/weeks.

The question is is it going to be enough to entice the non Nintendo faithful?

It's guaranteed 15 million odd sales (my guesstimate) just off the core user base but that's not enough. It needs to get the rest of the market to buy as well. For me from what I saw, not any time soon.

Judging from the posts I've seen from casuals and mainstream gamers on social media; no, no it's not.

As much as I love Nintendo and love the idea of the Switch, a lot of people don't seem convinced.

I'd say this is the only one that really matters. They've been hyping up the Switch launch for months on the basis that they've been spending years developing for it. I mean, it really isn't the worst thing ever if it doesn't have a really stellar launch line up, as it's not directly competing with anything else big or similar coming out at the same time, but this is not the kind of launch line-up that is going to make people abandon their 3DS's and hop onto Switch-town so far.

At $300, I'm gonna wait until there's something really special. I got more than enough 3DS and Vita stuff to hold me over for a long, long while.

Not gonna like though, I'm excited at the prospect of a Fire Emblem Dynasty Warriors-style game! I'm probably like the only FE fan who is, but Hyrule Warriors was super fun, so I'm psyched for FE Musou!

NM it's coming out on the 3rd as well :P. That might be a bad move on there part.

Huh, yeah I might just get the U version and wait on the Switch.

I'll probably give it a week or so to hear about the comparisons between the versions.

And yeah those accessory prices... jeeze.

It's weird how ambiguous they were about most of the games. Are 1 2 Switch and Arms actual retail games? Hard to tell.

Exactly. Hopefully the 'launch window' itself is decent, with regular releases and they continue to release games in drips over the initial months. The Wii Us problem was it launched with a relatively large lineup (although arguably quite mediocre in quality) and then there was nothing for months. After delays and cancellations and games like Rayman Legends becoming multiplat, the Wii U's fate was decided within its first 6 months.

They already have games listed on their website. It's...pretty much looking like the Wii U's release schedule at this point.

alright, well I was gonna back-read for details, but you guys talked a lot last night.

Can someone drop an outline? I see from Reprise's post that it's launching at $300 - which feels pricier than I was interested in it for. I mean in fairness, I was thinking of this as a Nintendo Shield. So I knew it had to be at least $200. And then there's the controller thingies and dock, so I can see WHERE the other $100 comes from. But I still wanted it to be in the $200-$250 to make me really consider it.

So anyway, official release date? Official launch line-up?

- Release date is March 3rd.

- Launch lineup is... Breath of the Wild. Pretty much. There's also a tech demo-ish game called 1, 2, Switch that for some reason isn't a pack-in. There are some others titles listed for March, and Mario Kart 8 Complete at the end of April.

- There are a few big Japanese series coming...eventually. Skyrim and FIFA were confirmed, but not much else. Splatoon 2 for the summer, new Super Mario Odyssey for the holidays.

- 32GB of internal storage, micro SD expansion

- Up to 8 can be used in ad-hoc local network play

- Online will be paid, and largely facilitated by a smart device app running on another device (matchmaking, voice chat, etc). Their paid service will include monthly access to Virtual Console NES and SNES games with added network features (sounds like rotating titles month to month though).

- JoyCons are pretty much Motion+ Wiimotes and then some, accessories in general are expensive ($70 Pro Controller for instance).

Generally, Nintendo's Switch page has been updated. They naturally didn't get into actual specs or anything. Some of the details given (like MK8 running at 1080p) would definitely indicate it being a good step above the Wii U, but overall game footage is well below the PS4/XB1, technically speaking.
