So as a PAL gamer, I've never had a chance to play PS1 classics like Chrono Chross and Einhander.
What would be the easiest way to run NTSC PSX games on a PAL PS2? Would I be able to use my PAL PSX memory card for them?
Question about NTSC PSX games on a PAL PS2
Re: Question about NTSC PSX games on a PAL PS2
If your PSX is chipped then all you need is a SCART cable and an NTSC compatible TV. If your TV doesn't support NTSC then you will need to get a NTSC-PAL video converter. Don't ask me where to get one. I don't know any more. Most TVs built in the last 10 years supports both standards though so you should be ok.
If you don't have a chipped PSX then you need to get it chipped or find a swap disk or if you have a model with the parallel port find a cheat cartridge that allows you to boot backups/imports.

I haven't seen a TV in the US that supported PAL. My fancy Samsung that I bought 8 months ago doesn't support PAL unless I'm doing something wrong.Niode wrote:If your PSX is chipped then all you need is a SCART cable and an NTSC compatible TV. Are you saying that most PAL TVs also support NTSC?

Yes. Most PAL TVs support NTSC. I didn't mention anything about NTSC TVs supporting PAL.gtmtnbiker wrote:I haven't seen a TV in the US that supported PAL. OH and to Paul_B-C. I didn't realise you wanted to play PSX games on a PS2. It must have been late when I replied.
The same rules apply though. PS2 has a region lock out for both PSX and PS2 games. You will need some way of circumventing the region lockout. AFAIK this can only be achieved with a modchip. Freemcboot will not allow you to circumvent the region lockout without the use of ESR. This is only for DVD backups though. Due to the way PS2 is designed there is no current way to load backups or imports of PS1 games without some kind of hardware modification.
After a little investigation there appears to be a swap disc called the Break Pro PAL which will allow you to boot import PS1/PS2 games on a PAL PS2/PS1.
I have no idea if it works or where there are any in stock but it's up you if you want to try this avenue.
Personally I'd just get a PS1 and mod it. They're so easy to mod it's just 4 - 7 wires depending on the model. The PSones use a few more wires but it's only a couple more I think. Plus the solder points on the old PS1s are relatively big so if you are new to soldering it won't be as difficult. Modding a PS2 is quite difficult due to the solder points being very small and there being more wires to solder. Plus the PS2 is a dog to disassemble and assemble too.
