Blame the developers for that. Since the Wii isn't as powerful as the X360 or PS3, the developers don't want to code a game specifically for the Wii since it would require more efficient development. So the developers just port over a PS2 game or remake an older game. I guess you could say it's Nintendo's fault too, since they constantly remake their own games as well.kingmohd84 wrote: The problem that is making me angry is that the Wii is becoming a "Remake & Port" console. ^...and that's just the thing, GSZX1337.
When developers actually looks at the Wii as an asset rather than a deficient system you get games like Mario Galaxy, Zack & Wiki, Wii Sports, World of Goo and Boom Blox - five games which are as compelling as any Gears of War, Halo or Killzone.
Underpowered or not, developers should really look at the Wii as a tool to do something different. How many games on the 360 and PS3 look great but the play just sucks? I've played dozens!

Re: Wii - New Play Control Series
Yeah it really does strike me that the overall consensus of the Wii is that is 'underpowered' and that it can't do ports from the 360 without drastic changes. I think that's a good thing. It's just a shame that developers don't embrace the platform and create an experience that simply can't be had on another system. No More Heroes, HotD:O, Trauma Center, Madworld are just a few games that embrace the strengths of the console instead of focusing on it's weaknesses.
It's such a shame that most third party developers just see it as a cash cow since so many uninformed people have one they can pretty much market any old shit and it will make a profit.
I'd like to see Nintendo take an active stance on the games published on the system, to make sure that it doesn't become a transparent platform for shovelware ... Who am I kidding? Nintendo doesn't give a shit about what third party devs put out. They get profit regardless.

Eh, not exactly. Ninty used to limit the number of games a third party could release a year (which is why some publishers created shell labels like Konami --> Ultra Games), so that meant they had to put out quality releases or else waste a slot on their calendar. If you look at the NES and SNES library, the signal-to-noise ratio is pretty good in terms of quality.GSZX1337 wrote:All it meant was that it wasn't a pirate cart.Cassidy wrote:*sniff* Yeah, man, this used to mean something.
But yeah, I see your point. There was no "quality control" in a real sense.
Re: Wii - New Play Control Series
Hm, didn't know that. Wish they'd do that now.RadarScope1 wrote:GSZX1337 wrote: Eh, not exactly. Eventually it would come back to bite them, as many of the third parties would jump ship to release titles on Sony's PlayStation. There are other reasons for the defection as well, but this strict control over the market was always a gripe.GSZX1337 wrote:Hm, didn't know that. Re: Wii - New Play Control Series
Yeah, it was one of the factors. Even though Nintendo relaxed most of their policies in the SNES days, they still did some bad things (censoring MK1 ftl). But the straw that broke the camel's back was the N64 carts. Let's ignore the fact that carts keep you from doing all the fancy prerendered video. Developers would have found another way. What really pissed them off was that Nintendo was the only one who could make carts, and they were expensive. So when you made a game, you gave a ton of money to Nintendo. With CDs, you pay a pittance per unit. So you can sell a CD game for $10 less than a cart game and still make more profit than you would with the carts.Ack wrote:Eventually it would come back to bite them, as many of the third parties would jump ship to release titles on Sony's PlayStation. So that's why N64 games were $60-$65, whereas PS1 games were $50. I'm learning so much here. ;pMrPopo wrote:So when you made a game, you gave a ton of money to Nintendo.
