Apparently we very well could finally be getting an official Mother 3 release in Western territories. Nothing official from Nintendo yet, but some fairly trusted have put out some stuff lately on possible leaks. I may play it again just to see what Nintendo's official translation is like, or if they changed anything drastically from the Japanese version.

That would be all kinds of awesome, and given they did give us Earthbound Beginnings it's not completely out of the question. I wonder if Nintendo would do all the work themselves or if they took Mato up on his offer for Nintendo to use all the work he and Jeffman put in on the fan localization.

Using the fan translation is precisely what I hope they did, assuming this turns out to be true. Their work on the game was fantastic.

My guess is that they used the fan translation as a starting point and made changes they felt necessary. Nintendo loves to do things all themselves, so who knows.

I definitely don't think it's fair to call the Switch a microconsole. I think it will be remembered down the line as a second 8th gen console, though I agree that, from a power perspective, the Wii should be thought of as a second 7th gen console and the Wii U a late 8th gen console.

I know others replied to this and all, but just to you, why? We know it has the guts of the Shield tablet/micro console within it, yet with some 'stuff' added and further customized so it's between that and the Shield 2 planned for the future. I have the tablet, it easily is the console too with nothing but a simple micro hdmi to hdmi cable into my TV. In a way the tablet is like the undocked Switch as the console one is the docked Switch as it has more oomph going on yet the same basic bones and OS/GUI involved.

Well, I think of microconsoles as usually low-cost devices that use Android as its OS and/or features mostly mobile games. In truth, the line between console and microconsole is increasingly blurred, so it's hardly an objective distinction in most cases.

I can see that, and if you stopped watching with the Ouya and their ilk (or less) I'd agree as they struggled enough to do well. The Shield though with the Tegra upped the bar a lot and it really feels like the true first microconsole with the guts inside it. It can with some trickery and code play make a game look darn near PS3 in quality (MGS Revengeance, Doom3BFG edition, and others.) They require being on shield devices due to the hardware they alone had when made.

With the Switch being the shield home console, but with more beef to it with switching up some things and customizing others to put it between a stock shield and whatever the shield2 will end up being I think there's some potential there. It's a true microconsole if there really ever was one considering the bones of the device being the shield tablet and shield console rolled into one form factor roughly put.

Word has it with a UK and Canadian(?) outlet both placing the Switch online early and shortly after pulling it, when converted (both) to the USD ends up being a $250 system.

If they're going to beat what they peddled the failed WiiU at by $100 in a portable with a dock format using Shield (plus, yet not Shield 2) tech going on -- they've won half the battle there being very affordable. If they get some solid truly there third party effort and not the half promises, ignoring, and less than halfassed old ports the WiiU was slapped with it could end up working out after all.

Is that a straight conversion? Global economics doesn't work like that if so, so it's likely it could be even cheaper than that (probably around $200 if it was up at £200).

I don't know if it ever got posted in this thread, but this article from Eurogamer supposedly reveals a bit about clock speeds. We still don't know what custom stuff is going on. It also apparently runs much faster docked.

How many fan translations have become "official" translations? I know XSEED purchased some fan translations for the Ys games, but has it ever happened elsewhere?

But yeah, Mother 3 is insanely good.
