Volume 1 (issues 1-5) is fantastic, though. Totally recommend it.

Volume 2 (issues 6-10) is less good. It's not bad, but it's really unfocused. More like 6-9 attempt a story and then abandon and just goes off rails in #10 since the series came to a sudden end.

If you enjoyed 90's X-Men and the TV show, totally read volume 1.
Obligatory question as before, but do you think it's worth me reading #0 before picking up #1? I mean, as someone who really doesn't read a whole lot of comics and doesn't even know what the Secret Wars thingy is that it's supposed to take place after.

Just an FYI: I linked this thread to my site as a replacement for my forums since they were dead. The reviews are still getting a lot of traffic but the forums not. I figured the readers of my site would make a great addition to this discussion.
Also if anyone is wants to review comics and want a place that already has reader traffic, let me know and I can give you an account and your own section (you can review how you want, when you want, what you want, etc) on the homepage at my site. I figure the more unique content and authors the more unique discussion and such.

I started reading Mark Waid's run on Daredevil a few nights ago. Pretty good stuff. Mark Waid may not be the best comic plotter , but he is great about getting inside characters' heads and making sure those characters stay deep and consistent with what has come before.

The 0 series was technically a separate series... but not really. Short version: you can skip it and go straight to vol 1. I think an event in 0 is mentioned in vol 2, but nothing that will confuse you.

Agreed. He is a big part of why Avengers .1 is such a cool series so far.

I was doing some reading about him and he has some independent titles, has collaborated to create an independent on-line comic site, and has both written and edited a massive number of titles across almost every major publisher. This dude is clearly good at what he does, considering he's still freelance and still getting high-profile titles.

Waid's run on the Flash (almost 100 issues) defined the character in the 90's to create the popularity he has not... and it wasn't Barry Allen - he accomplished this by defining Wally West, Impulse, and creating the famous, infamous, rouges as we know them today.
Kingdom Come is also written by Waid and painted by Alex Ross.
The best Mark Waid story in my opinion is JLA: Tower of Babel (which many DC animated and possibly the JLA movie will be based on)
We’ve long heard tell that, if he were properly motivated, Batman could take down pretty much any hero (like if they went crazy, etc). Well, in this storyline, Ra’s Al Ghul uses Batman’s secret contingencies for each hero to take down the Justice League. Even if the League can manage to survive the plans Batman had for them, can they possibly forgive him for it?

That sounds like a really neat plotline, actually. Might have to look into that one.

EDIT: Just wrapped the second arc of Punisher MAX. First round was Mafia and CIA, this go round was the Irish. First arc was better. Third arc is Russians, hopefully things pick up some.

EDIT AGAIN: OK, the fourth arc makes the first three really worth it. And the fifth arc is fucking brutal all the way around. Never have I wanted Frank to kill some people more than this.

Finished Punisher MAX last night. Well, the #1-60 Ennis written ones of that run anyway. From everything I've ever read or seen, this is the definitive Punisher for me. I hope the new Netflix series is at least a fraction like this.
