OK. Real quick before this topic completely derails. I know that Psychonauts and Halo aren't shovel ware. But personally the style that Psychonauts has(all comical and cartoony) just doesn't tickle my fancy. When it comes to first person shooters I like the more realistic ones like Call of Duty, Black, Brothers in Arms, or Rainbow Six. Some completely unrealistic arcade style shoot-em-up with aliens and McDonald's toys for weapons looks... Strange. Although I admit that the levels with the flood look pretty interesting. As for GTA San Andreas. *throws up a little* ugh...

Also I srsly lol'd when someone said I should play Half-Life 2 on PC. My computer barely does internet as fast as it does let alone could it play anything even remotely graphically demanding. Besides, unless every PC game ever created was downloadable off the internet I wouldn't be playing anything since my CD-Drive is broken.

What the hell. I don't want to "derail" this topic and state the obvious but rarely has someone's comment about a video game riled me up as much as yours concerning Psychonauts. The humor and style it exhibits are phenomenal and to even think of referring to it as shovel ware is an insult to the developers and the gaming community in general.

I'm not one to insult a gamer's taste (to each his or her own) but my god, you call Psychonauts shovel ware and then list a Myst game on your must-own list, and in addition have Tidus as your icon. I LOATH Tidus and the art style he represents. It's largely what I find increasingly irksome about JRPGs.

That said, at least you listed Pirates! Note that the battle mode in the Xbox version is quite awesome.

Yes, it's worth it. An original Xbox will cost you less than $50 on Craigslist these days. Soft mod it and you're golden. It's worth it just for XBMC, AND you get all these games.

To continue the threadjack however, I also thought Psychonauts was a little overrated. It was good, but too cartoony for me. Monkey Island (developed by the same guy) was hilarious without feeling like a saturday morning cartoon. The level design was pretty neat though, and I did enjoy playing it through.

Well "the humor and style it exhibits" just isn't the style of game I want to play. Games like Okami and Psychonauts and every anime based game ever created that have that weird cartoon-like style to them feel weird when I play them. Also the Myst series happens to be my absolute favourite video game series ever. Of course I'm going to list it as a game I want. The Final Fantasy series is my favourite RPG series and FFX is my favourite in the FF series. So having an icon of Tidus in front of the FFX logo seems pretty valid to me. All these things are simply matters of opinion and really can't be argued. No matter what I say you're never going to like Tidus or Myst and no matter what you say I'm never going to like Psychonauts. Honestly I don't excpect you to like either of those things and anyone who expects me to love Psychonauts is extremely rude. Please forgive me, but trend-following isn't my life style.

Soft mod it if you're golden? What the heck does that mean?

Also, I completely agree on the over-rated factor of Psychonauts. Even if it was a good game so many people talk about like its the second coming of Christ that it's just tiring and makes me want to play the game even less.

Haha. This topic is going to get so much crap! Saying Psychonauts is shovelware is like saying Final Fantasy VII was a terrible strategy game:
1. Its not even accurate because its not strategy.
2. And you'll piss off every fan who loves that game.

I can't wait to see the flames of hate get fanned by this discussion.

Well...
1. I never said Psychonauts was a bad RPG or a bad FPS or anything like that so that comment doesn't make any sense.
2. I've already given my very valid reasons for not liking the game in above posts not to mention that it's only my opinion. So really nobody should be flaming anything here.

Think before you troll.

I think he was trying to say that your comment was so out there, that it's like saying that FFVII is a bad Strategy game.

Also, not liking the graphical style is a pretty lame excuse for not liking a game.

I agree with you about opinions, and I by no means want to start an opinion war, but Psychonauts and the art style in other Tim Schafer creations is not anime inspired at all(at least as far as I'm aware).

Tidus is pretty damn anime inspired though.

I never said it was anime inspired. I said it looks very cartoon-like. Also while Tidus may look like an anime character to some people, the graphics in FFX are not made to look cartoon-like or anything like that.

Seeming as I'm forced to stare at the graphical art style the entire time I'm playing the game, it sounds like a pretty valid reason to me. Not to mention that I wasn't only talking about the graphics. I'm talking about the entire style of the game.
