My money is on Duke.
Really though Noir tries a bit too hard to get DEEP towards the end and I just didn't give a crap. TWO MAIDENS WHO GOVERN DEATH...

Think I caught some weird ass scenes of Speed Grapher back in the day.

Have you seen Gunrave? That's another one of my action/guns favorites, though I liked the first half more when it was just grounded mafia stuff. Gets pretty wacky in the second half, but I remember liking it a lot all around topped off with a great ending.

If you mean Gungrave, yes, I've seen all of it. Twas good stuff. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Just don't watch the live action version. Even if it does have Samuel L. Jackson in it.

If you haven't watched them, maybe look at Darker than Black, Book of Bantorra or Durarara.

Heh, well, you'd be in the minority on that, though I think Gemini of the Meteor wasn't too great.

Oh I know, the hype on MAL back in 2008 or whenever it was new was exactly why I checked it out. Low and behold... the two main characters have literally zero personality whatsoever being about as tropey as it gets with quiet loli girl who has special powers and the sad emo guy. The entire thing was just dreadfully boring, unconcluded, and the sequels got even worse focusing on even lamer characters. It's one I definitely don't get at all. Just look at the ANN logo there and those character designs and those eyes. Look how bored they are! They just want you to turn it off.

I was enjoying Ergo Proxy and Texhnolzye instead... but hey I like being weird.

I think I'd already watched Ergo Proxy since that came out a year or two prior. Can't say it was really a perfect series either, but I liked it - similar, to me, to things like Wolf's Rain where the parts are greater than the whole.
To me, a lot of anime is trope-ridden, and part of enjoying it tends to be looking past that (if possible). I don't entirely disagree with you though, but Darker than Black wasn't one that I felt was horrible. It's stuff like Rosario + Vampire, Freezing, etc that I tend to watch an episode or two of and feel like, yep, that's crap.

Maybe Kurozuka, Le Chevalier D'eon or Sci-Fi Harry then?

Horrible is indeed a stretch haha, I just get up and arms whenever I see it name dropped. It just came at a really weird time for me when I was getting heavy back into anime around the mid to late 2000's. And I even specifically remember looking around for good new sci-fi recommendations and somehow Darker than Black got thrown around a lot... um sci-fi? Definitely no. Overall not bad but not great either, nothing I'd want to go through again. The last OVA or whatever it was that focused on new characters (maybe Gemini of the Meteor) was definitely horrible to me though.

All those others you're mentioning are new to me. And I still haven't gotten around to Wolf's Rain.

Agreed on Ergo Proxy. It's very flawed and has a pretty poor ending. Definitely some great ideas throughout though. I really miss this serious weird sci-fi era of anime. Nowadays we get Psycho Pass which... I hate to say, I also hated despite the masses loving it haha. I went in hoping for another GITS or something and phew... it's not that. The character designs made me angry too. lol

On the flip side I loved Steins;Gate... which could arguably be seen as extremely pondering in ways, rarely do I care to see NEET elements in anime either. But somehow this one just worked for me and was super addicting, I blasted through it.

Who the heck knows. I'm crazy hit or miss with modern anime I guess. I'll never be that guy that says it's all bad thesedays like some do with gaming too haha, but yeah seems to be very little middle ground for me lately. But I've seen a LOT of anime so maybe I'm just a little jaded because of how much I've seen by this point, if it makes no mark then it's totally forgettable to me. Or that it's just become very mainstream thesedays it's hard to take ratings and random recommendations seriously now.

One newer big series I've had my sights on would be Space Brothers. Looks like it could be up my alley. Oh and been meaning to watch Space Dandy too.

For something I was watching this season, I finished up the fourth season of JoJo Diamond is Unbreakable, just wrapped up airing. The second half is saved by Kira. Never have I seen such a hilarious interesting take on a serial killer villain. I don't want to spoil much or say anything. Overall this season was the slowest grower for me, it's a lot more laid back and slice of life, only takes place in one town, but it really did grow on me after awhile and had some great characters. Crossing my fingers they continue to animate more of the manga! I'm assuming so since they're about halfway in now. I have nitpicks with all the seasons so far, but this stuff is insanely creative especially considering it's all actually really old material and influenced so much Japanese pop culture, still even decades later this series is off the wall bonkers and fresh compared to the norm.

That one was a great show. You're the first person I've seen mention that anime since I saw it back in 2007. You have above average taste!

Welp...seeing as I'm sick and can't do much:

I just finished PoyoPoyo. For brief episodes(we're talking 3 minutes including the intro and outro) this show is really great for what it is. It's not going to take you on any amazing journey especially since it is definitely as close to being truly a "slice of life" as possible but yet still manages to be hilarious to no end. Especially since the father and sister get along with and love the cat to pieces but Hide(the brother) on the otherhand it's worth watching to see what ensues especially with other events in the show.

Food wars: Shokugeki no Soma

I'm on episode 24 of this right now.....I really don't want it to end anytime soon. Crunchy needs to get more episodes and they really need to adapt more of the manga(seeing as it's still ongoing from the looks of it). Also this one is making me super hungry and really wishing I wasn't sick so I could manage what they're throwing out in the show(anime/japanese food has always caught my interest but the abilities in the kitchen of all the characters make me wish I'd been brought up cooking like them).

Still really wish there was some option to shuffle a combination of the shows I find on crunchy or other sites into one gigantic playlist instead of one episode after another...oh well >_>

Edit: on a whim decided to watch more Bongou stray dogs..........I am not okay with that ending!!!! They clearly set that up for more.....yeah some of may be cliche but the whole idea of a world where famous writers have become characters with abilities like they do is simply amazing to me and the way they end up being used is even more impressive. I'm so hoping the through present on the manga means it'll pick up again next year. I don't like this hole of finishing something and not having something that can fill the void to finish a story that's pissed me off on so many occasions it's not even funny. I guess I could go back to Food wars or one piece but FW:SNS needs the last few episodes added and another season confirmed. I've read manga before with the likes of a bit of naruto and dbz but it just isn't the same compared to the actual anime...
