DSi Event at some Game Stops

Post by Cronson »

I was at one near my house earlier today and they asked me if I wanted to preorder a DSi. I told them I already did at another store and then the guy told me about the event going on tomorrow night (Sunday the 21st). Nintendo reps will be there with the hardware, they'll be letting you try it out, and they'll have coupons to trade your DS in for $100. Apparently this store can only have 10 customers invited.

So, if anyone gets excited to check out new hardware, and knows they want to trade in their DS towards a DSi, call around and see if your stores are doing this.

So basically, you'd be paying $70 to downgrade your DS. Wonderful.

Having no GBA BC or video out is shitty and a dealbreaker to me. But, I read somewhere that the DSi is more powerful than the DS. In fact the was a rumor that Dragon Quest IX was delayed to take advantage of the more powerful hardware. So calling it a downgrade Mozgus would be inaccurate unless you use only flashcarts or if GBA BC is very important. To be honest though it seems Nintendo is putting out a half assed update of the DS hardware. What they should be doing is making great games for the most popular system on the planet, the DS not half baked updates.

Even if your rumors were true, a spec upgrade made no difference for PSP, so why would it help the DS? It will just make the battery life even more pathetic, and the vast, VAST majority of developers will never make use of it. So once again, it would be a downgrade. I don't give a shit about Dragon Quest anyway.

My interest in the DSi solely rests with the downloadable content. I'm curious how they integrate the DSi and Wii download stores. The GBA slot missing doesn't bother me. I just wish they had taken the opportunity to add a Video -out feature. Similar to what the PSP did.

All DSs have that video out feature. The problem is the cable is extremely rare, and only intended for media outlets and journalists to use for their video reviews and such. I've tried to at least find a picture of the damn thing, but I've failed. I have no idea how it even connects.

I'm going to tread this one carefully so as to not incur Mozgus's wrath... :P

...But I've heard (or read somewhere, can't remember exactly) that eventually games will in fact be made specifically for the DSi - sort of like Gameboy Color and the original Gameboy back in the day, basically leading to the eventual discontinuation of the original DS/DSLite.

I know I'm echoing concerns stated often already, but it pisses me off to think that Nintendo is pretty much making the DS obsolete already. What if there are some games that we would like to play but can't due to their being made specifically for the DSi? It's just bullshit, and that's it, I guess. Such is the way of Nintendo... (as well as every other big-name business)

Sucks that they won't leave the DS alone, though. It's got nothing wrong with it, and game developers generally seem to make better use of the stylus and dual screens than they do with the other consoles thus far. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the DS is the best 'console' this generation. Why change an already (almost) perfect thing?

PS - Screw you, Nintendo!
