There's a disparity concerning the amount of content in a $20 Square Enix mobile game versus this $10 Nintendo one. For example, Chaos Rings III is a recent Square Enix $19.99 release, and it average 63 hours for completion time.

Of course it boils down to perceived value. I'm sure there will be plenty of people who find the content in SMR was worth the $9.99.
Spot on. I think it is worth it, others don't and that is cool too.

I have the demo, cleared it, but with nowhere near the pink coins. Sure you could take it down in an hour if you're not a perfectionist or a coin high score hoarder and that's fine. I'm first to get annoyed at games much over $5 in digital (especially closed) formats but in this case it seems fine. It's not more about the one off, but the repeated ride for enjoyment or being an OCD collector of stuff and they do have those items in kingdom builder on top of just the coinage top scores.

Would I buy it, yeah, would I twice...not a chance. I'm where if I bought it on apple I'd get credit on google and go free because Nintendo isn't much of a sales giver.

Probably the first mobile game I've ever bought. It's quality, but... seems steep for what feels like something I'll casually beat in an hour or two. I don't see myself caring to constantly replay the levels for the pink/purple coins, so I wish there were more levels instead. Guess I'm doing a "runner" wrong?

I don't regret it, but yeah.

It must be said though, I'm damn sick of the "New" Mario art style and it's been around for far too long by this point. Seriously needs an overhaul. I have no issues with how Galaxy and 3D World look in comparison.

I kind of agree. It used to be every Mario title had its own look but they've gotten themselves sort of stuck in a rut.

Been thinking a bit, it is kind of worrisome they did list the IAP as worlds 1-4 through 6. I don't recall any Mario game being that short, especially something of this basically instant runner type game too. After the stunts they pulled with some of their handheld games like holding back 20% of 3DS Mario Golf, I'm concerned there will be like a World 7-9 (or more) upgrade later for another $10. That would be somewhat infuriating.

Why would it be infuriating? I take it as a given that this will be the model. I look forward to handing over more cash for more content ASAP.

Infuriating because I'm too old for modern gaming I guess. I live in a world where I buy a game and I get the entire package for an up front and disclosed price. If someone wanted to make more of such a game, you get another disc/cart/floppy which is considered an add-on campaign/package (like the other 3 episodes of wolf3d or the COD1 United Offensive package.) If not that, it's called a sequel, a full new game developed off the premise of the last.

I'm not a fan of being told here's the price, enjoy, and then weeks/months later going well oops more stages but more money, wash rinse repeat. It's like a few years back the stacking effect of Tiger Woods Golf where it cost like $300+ to get the full game, the same full game released a year earlier for $60 on a DVD for consoles. I got fed up with that, so I now wait stuff out for game of the year editions.
