Re: Funcoland
We had several Funcolands where I lived at the time they were around. I have very fond memories of a specific one. It was in a well trafficked area and you could always find good deals there. It was a gold mine for Saturn games and accessories. The best part? It was 20 ft away from my favorite arcade.
But all good things must come to an end. In the late 90's the arcade tried everything to stay afloat and finally gave up. Shortly after, Funco was bought by Gamestop/Software Etc/Babbage's and that store became a corner in a triangle of Gamestops... There was another Gamestop less than a mile down the street and another across the street in a mall. It retained the Funcoland feel and the same magic inventory until the day it closed.

That Funcoland catalog is fancier than I remembered. Funny, also, how the prices of the past-gen stuff is still close to today's standards.

Yeah, all I ever remember is like a two page bi-fold newspaper quality price list.

Re: Funcoland
I used to have an Electronics Boutique that was awesome (always had imports, and if you went at the right time would even mod your consoles,) a Funcoland that was huge, and had a ton of inventory, and a Game Gallery (another store that would mod and had imports) all within a few blocks of each other. Unfortunately The Game Gallery closed and the other two stores are now GameStops that are pretty much across the street from each other. When I was like 12-16 I would make sure I went to Funcoland at least once a month to pick up the newspaper flyer they gave out, and circle all of the games I wanted. I loved that place. The other Funcoland I went to wasnt nearly as big, but was across the street from where I worked when I was 15-16. Of course things were never as good as you remember them, but I loved that place.
