Should Electoral College Electors be sequestered just like Jurists?
I thought the Political Campaign TV Ads were over. Oh boy, now Hollywood Actors put out a TV ad for the Electoral College to ignore the vote of the nation. A public awareness video to put pressure on the Electors to change their votes to someone else. Sleazy how they are pushing the Founding Fathers direction to the Electors would fail their duty if Trump becomes President.



The Electors do need access to all the candidates considered for President to ensure a thorough study before the decision in a few days. They should not be influenced by members of Congress, rumors of Russia Hacking, the powerful Hollywood elite or the News Media. The trick is how to sequester and still keep open the information the electors need?

Yes the influence has gotten this bad, the 538 Electors that can change the vote needs 100% impartiality.

The real irony? If by the very long shot, Trump is not chosen by the Electors then it would go to the House and Senate. The Republican held Congress would vote Trump in anyways!

That too shows the abuse of power. The Electoral College and the two Party Republican Democrat system needs abolished. No more Primaries, change to just a General Election with the pool of Candidates. The Republican and Democrat banner fails at times; the most qualified candidate is not chosen due not on the same party team. Majority of voters check off their party from President down to local School Board Rep even though some candidates are not the best choice.

Don’t expect Electoral College drama on December 19
Despite a popular petition on the Change.org website about how the nation’s 538 electors should vote on December 19, there seems to be little chance of the tactic changing the recent presidential election’s outcome. More than 4.3 million people signed an online petition “to make Hillary Clinton President on December 19” by calling on electors in the Electoral College to ignore their commitments to vote for Donald Trump.

In the end, the House and Senate must agree on any changes made to the Electoral College vote during the in-person Electoral College voting that takes place on December 19 at 50 state capitals and in the District of Columbia. When the official vote certificates are opened by Congress on January 6, the Constitution allows challenges to “faithless electors” who switch their votes, as long as one member of the House and one member of the Senate agree on the same challenge. If a challenge is upheld, the faithless elector’s vote is discarded. Given that the Republicans control the House and the Senate in the next Congress, an unlikely possible outcome would be that enough faithless electors put Trump’s tally below the 270 votes needed to win the Electoral College vote. In that case, the majority of House and Senate Republicans would invalidate those faithless votes, triggering a run-off contingent election in the House and Senate that Trump and Mike Pence would win.

Well, the whole "Be Civil" thing is really just a distillation of the forum's rules of conduct, which I will remind everyone are actually a bit more restrictive than this minimal statement. Because politics tends to be one thing on here that taps most strongly into folks emotions, especially negative emotions, this thread is also one where people are most likely to ignore the general forum rules. "Be Civil" is a reminder that we do have codes of conduct on here and we expect people to abide by them, even if they disagree with them. Any one forum member's dislike of a particular rule or rule set is not grounds to waive them.

I get the logic, I just am bothered at the collective idea that there seems to be a need for it here. I guess I haven't really seen a lack of civility, problems engaging ideas, etc. It feels like a chilling of speech where none was needed.

The more cynical side of me thinks that people who can't handle being told they're wrong about something are those who would most welcome an vague framework of "civility" as a way to dismiss valid criticisms. This is what our president-elect does, after all.

CRT, there's one thing you've hit on that I do agree with, and that's the abolition of the party system. I understand why it exists (give candidates of a similar platform a support structure through which they may achieve their goals); at the same time, it encourages a sort of unwavering loyalty to a particular party at times. George Washington even warned against the system.

Political parties are the natural result of applying basic game theory to elections. You can't get rid of them any more than you can apply the Platonic ideal of communism to real life.

I appreciated the contrast of the doom and gloom of the original thread title (even if it was a bit tongue in cheek) against the general frivolity of topics about video game discussion. I also don't care for being "told" in a title how I am supposed to act.

Any chance we can go back?
