a few things I want y'all to know...

THING ONE

Inhumans Vs X-Men has started; this is a big crossover event...

Image

The main series is just a 6 issue run. If you are at all interested in new X-Men, then this is what I'd recommend. It is mainline, and VERY VERY good.

There was an issue #0, but you can skip that. It wasn't really necessary. Issue #1 is AWESOME though. If you want to give any new X-Men a shot, just read this issue #1 please.

TL;DR plot: There's this cloud of stuff called Terigen. This stuff will turn humans into Inhumans (give them super powers). So humans and Inhumans like it. Also this stuff kills Mutants. So Mutants don't like it.

What makes this setup interesting is that you have literally all the Inhumans (good and bad) opposing all the mutants (good and bad). So you get to see how Magneto would interact with Beast for instance. Also, Jean Grey rules.

Like most big Marvel events, this will crossover with other titles... Uncanny X-Men, Extraordinary X-Men, Deadpool And The Mercs For Money, All-New X-Men, Uncanny Inhumans... but I'm fine with skipping all those (except Extraordinary X-Men which I have been reading for months anyway).

THING TWO

Image

Amazing-Spiderman: Renew Your Vows is secretly the best Spider-Man thing right now. There's lots of Spidey titles in publication now, but Renew Your Vows manages to feel like the most genuinely Peter Parker. In fact, in some series Parker isn't even Spidey anymore. And in some series he is now basically Tony Starks since he owns this big tech company and is in, and funding the Avengers.

BUT NOT IN Renew Your Vows. Nope - this is a totally brilliant series about Peter and MJ and how they deal with living a "normal" life as parents, as well as try to juggle being superheroes. You've got Spider-Woman swinging from buildings and trying to plan a birthday party for her daughter. Y'know? It is very unique and very human and very awesome. It is one of the more "classic" feeling Marvel series going right now.

THING THREE

After finishing up Jessica Jones #3, I'm going to go ahead and not advise anyone to start reading this series. Y'all know that I love the character, but I'm finding this new book very underwhelming. Issue #1 was a bit slow, but a nice setup. Issue #2 seemed to be going in a better direction. Issue #3 was pretty uninteresting. I just don't feel like enough is being done with the character. It feels like it's not really sure what to do as a story right now. Maybe it'll switch into gear and I'll change my opinion, but right now I'm not recommending it.

I wonder if this will be a prelude to trying (again) to eliminate the X-Men. I sorta thought House of M was Marvel finally doing mutants in, but they've backtracked a little. Is this them pulling another House of M?

it's actually a prelude to the big Ressurexion event next year. They're not killing off the X-Men, they're putting all their weight behind them. The main books will be X-Men Gold & Blue, which will basically be like a 'traditional' X-Men and a 'young' X-Men, and there will be solo books of Jean Grey, Cable, Iceman, Weapon X and maybe most awesome is there will be a new Generation X book.

I've ordered a copy of #1. Just got to wait for it to come.

Are you sure it's ok to skip #0? I don't mind picking up a copy or do you think there really isn't any point?

I predict by 2020 there will be an issue #-1 of something.

I know, right? I don't read a lot of comics in their comic form (tend to pick up omnibus books and trade paperbacks). I really don't get this whole obsession with #0 issues.

you CAN if you're interested. It's just a bit of setup, really. #0 involves Beast doing some research; #1 begins with the outcome of his research. It's not entirely necessary to read #0, but if you think you'll dig this series and want to read all issues then certainly grab #0 instead of just the main six.

For me personally, #0 felt more like a teaser to tide fans over until the release of #1 though.

I wrote more about issue #1 on the reading journal style blog I've recently started (link in my sig), if you're interested.

The current Avengers series has .1 issues, so why not?

Seriously, there's Avengers #1 and #2, and there's Avengers #1.1 and #2.1. Though, that sounds more confusing than it is because Avengers and the .1 series are two totally different Avengers books with different characters taking place at different points in time.
