Indeed. You do have exceptional taste.

Except about that Ys crap.

I've been playing that Ys 1 and not getting it. You bump shit and hopefully not in the face and then you deal with one of the worst dark caves ever created in a video game.

Have you guys never played an old ARPG? This is standard design. Ys did it way better than its various contemporaries.

For real though, Ys is legit the best action-RPG series ever. The first Ys quality depends on which version you play. There are some versions of Ys 1 that I don't enjoy. On top of that, there are different "eras" of Ys. The first Ys era is very much oldschool, not everybody's gonna like it. The second era (Napishtim-Oath-Origin) is much more friendly to modern audiences, but still fairly hardcore. The current era (Seven-Celceta-VIII) is quite modern and the difficulty is toned down for the masses, anybody can play and enjoy those.

Now if you want to talk about super badass oldschool games let me tell you guys about KING'S FIELD.

Holy shit King's Field is... hey, hello?

Where'd everybody go?

I didn't have a computer in the home until the late 90's or something. Never even heard of Y's until the PS2 one.

Zelda 1 spoiled me and that's what I want my blueprint for ARPG's to *feel* like. This is the one and only time I will link Zelda to RPG's.

Crystalis is better too.

Good luck Popo!

Play it on PCE, it has the best music. You can get this on the PSP version too, so BoBW.

I will concede that Zelda is probably more fun than any 8-bit version of Ys.

But Ys Book I & II on TurboDuo lays waste to virtually every video game ever made.

I'm actually surprised that someone could like Zelda and Crystalis but not Ys. To me that's like saying, "R-Type and Gradius sure are fun... but Darius, fuck that game!"
