What RPG are you playing right now?
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Did you read the same books as I did? Because the ones I did had very flashy fight scenes.

I'm saying that they aren't flashy like in the cutscenes of the game. Combat scenes in withcer books are usually short and visceral and it feels like anyone can die on any moment.
I never got the sort "look how bad ass these characters" are sort of feeling from the books.

I'm not playing it yet (because I want to force myself to finish Mana 2 first) but I just took possession of a repro cart of the translated english version of Chaos Seed for SNES.
Normally the guy who does these has tested the save function and his little test file is already on there. Not this time and after testing it myself I see why!
Has a SNES game ever had a more text heavy PAY ATTENTION introduction than this one? Yikes, it felt like working my way through a textbook. Kudos to whoever did the translation because it must have taken them an absolute age. It takes about twenty minutes to get past the introduction to a point where you can save your game and the entire thing is instructional tutorial including pop quizzes that you have to pass to get past it.
I hope the game isn't as overwhelming as the introduction was!

I've been co-op'ing a "sort of RPG" with my wife, an Android version of the board game "Talisman". We added some computer players and have been struggling against them as a team, trying to beat the game before the computer does. Talisman surprised me with its depth; you pick a character class, gain strength and magic levels, find and equip equipment, cast spells, battle monsters and other players, it's chock full of fantasy trappings. We've put about three hours into one session so far, but the game allows you to pause and resume sessions, thankfully. I find this virtual board game RPG to be fun enough that I would play it by myself against computer players. Great stuff:

There's a Warhammer 40,000 flavor too:

Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
I started playing Baldur's Gate II (Enhanced Edition, $6 on GOG right now). I'm not all that sure what I'm doing yet. Full disclosure, I have no RTFM either. I have a party of two right now, though I'm pretty sure I should be finding more party members in this first area. I found a key, but can't figure out how to unlock a door - or which one. So I've just been exploring this one same prison section for a while now. I don't know.

Get ready to be overwhelmed when you get out of the prison. Lots of quests.
I've got a (currently on hold) playthrough of the first game, although I've integrated it into Baldur's Gate II via the Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod.

It is so full of flavor text it is distracting.
Case in point, in Talisman, you may pickup a helmet which says "Save on a roll of 6." In Horus its equivalent is MK2 armor, you would think it would just say "Save on a roll of 6," but that would be too easy. There is atleast a paragraph with several pseudo latin 40kisms then "Save on a roll of 6."
Then again, my several hundred hours of Talisman between Steam, Android, and physical may be tainting my view of the game.

And it has crossplatform play. Sadly there is no gold pack for DLC, so you have to buy each at a very cheap rate. I never bought the characters on android, but have most of the expansions. Gotta have that reaper and werewolf.

Indeed, and it's quite good.

I really like board game adaptions to Droid. I recently bought Pandemic, Galaxy Trucker, and Elder Sign. If you've got any recommendations I'm listening. I really wish Descent: Journeys in the Dark and Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island would get an Android adaptation.
