1989 Nintendo launched the gameboy and along side of it...the almighty Tetris. Bathroom breaks would never be the same.

Re: Best game from your birth year?
Damn, I got a ton to choose from:
- Ms. Pac-Man (Arcade)
- Dig Dug (Arcade)
- Pole Position (Arcade)
- Q*bert (Arcade)
- Tron (Arcade)
- BurgerTime (Arcade)
Of course, I also get Pac-Man (2600) & E.T. (2600).
For me though, my favorite would be Pitfall! (2600). I had an Atari 2600 when I was really young and I remember playing a ton of Pitfall! back in the day. The others are fun to go back to, but Pitfall would be the one I have the most memories from.
For best game released, now looking back at it, I would choose Pole Position. That game is way ahead of its time and very influential even to this day.
1982 was a good year.

1986:
Space Quest

Metroid

Out Run

Rolling Thunder

Those are my tops. I can't decide on a number 1. Space Quest is dearest to my heart. 1986 also saw the Famicom releases for Zelda and Castlevania.

I'm gonna cheat a bit here and say Soul Calibur. The arcade version came out in 1998. I've never played the arcade version, but my earliest gaming memory was playing the Dreamcast version on my dad's Dreamcast. It's still one of my favorite video games to this day and it's one that I pull out every time friends come over.
Insert clever quote here.

Soul Calibur on DC still looks amazing.

1988: Some all time greats this year:
Super Mario Bros 2. - US release was in 1988, and it's not the same as Doki Doki Panic

Super Mario Bros 3. - Japanese release the same year - 2 great Mario titles in my birth year!

Ninja Gaiden - Yup!

And just to go one better, here's a great game that came out the EXACT DAY I did (hurr hurr).
