PS2 fat or slim
PS2 fat or slim
I am going to buy a used ps2 tomorrow. Which should I buy??? Fat or slim?!?!?! I will most likely be doing some playing of backups and would like to do this with the least amount of work. Soldering more than 6 wires is out, and it does not seem like there are any mod chips with fewer than 19 wires!! I have been reading around for the last 5 hours and still I am confused at which one to buy. Can you guys/gals help me out???

If you don't want to solder, you can get the slim PS2 and use swap magic and some haggard little workarounds to trick the PS2.

For backups get the Memor32 and download Memento.
As for which console to get, I suggest the slim. They look better, take up less space, and have a network adapter built-in.

Do you have to use that card only? Where can I get one, and will someone sell me one?

Yes, just get the card and download the mentioned software. There's a list of resellers on the site.wclem wrote:Do you have to use that card only? Where can I get one, and will someone sell me one?

We actually had a discussion on this topic a while ago in which I wrote a guide on the differences between the two models of the PS2, and their various revisions.wclem wrote:I am going to buy a used ps2 tomorrow. I hope it helps!
Other than that though you honestly might want to just buy the games you want to play since most if not all PS2 games are dirt cheap, and you seem to be pretty avert to any kind of soldering.

Re: PS2 fat or slim
I'm kinda surprised that no one (even myself) has mentioned this:
The slim Japanese PS2 has a built-in Power Supply, so you don't have to have the power brick.
You can watch a comparison between the Jap and US PSTwos Here.

Actually that's the new model two slim which is also retailing at $129 new in american stores; both were released worldwide last x-mas and whoever made that video just didn't bother to check the production dates, and model numbers on the units.GSZX1337 wrote:I'm kinda surprised that no one (even myself) has mentioned this:
